On May 19, 2010 they ruled that Gigi was a dangerous dog and therefore has to be euthanized. Tom is appealing this ruling.
Commissioner Ken Keechl was the one who wrote this law that is affecting every family in Broward County and is not willing to make any changes!! Please write to him and have him change this law kkeechl@broward.org
Gigi is a beautiful lab mix who acted as any dog that feels threatened would. Gigi's owner was walking Gigi (like he does everydayon a leash) when they encountered the Yorkie. The Yorkie was being walked by a doggysitter who allowed the yorkie to get close to Gigi and allowed the yorkie to continue to bark at Gigi. Gigi grabbed the yorkie by the neck and killed her in seconds. Gigi didn't even charged at the yorkie, she just grabbed her by the neck and because the yorkie was only 3 lbs the bit ended up being fatal. Gigi is NOT an aggressive dog, she is a gentle dog, who lives with her family and even a cat, whom she sleeps with. I am not dismissing the pain that this has cause the yorkie owners BUT the doggysitter should be held responsible for allowing the yorkie to come so close to a bigger dog and allowed the yorkie to continuously barked at Gigi which obviously she reacted to. Now Gigi is sitting on death row and we are trying to save her. It is not fair that Gigi pays for the dogsitters mistake. Please help us to the county from killing an innocent family pet and help us to this law that makes absolutely NO SENSE! A family pet (like any other animal) deserves a trial because not all situations where a dogs bites is justify by the dog being called aggressive. THIS is one of those instances where we have to stand up and mak our voices be heard. LETS GET INTO ACTION!!! CALL YOUR LOCAL COMMISIONNER AND DEMAND THAT THIS LAW "Dangerous Dogs: Section 4-12" BE RE-WRITTEN BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE FOR GIGI AND THE 16 OTHER DOGS SITTING ON DEATH ROW!! PLEASE HELP THIS CAUSE!!
