Shadow Glen Stables

Save Horse Stables from State Shutdown!

Target:
1000

Shadow Glen Stables%u2014the sole equestrian concessionaire at the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area (SRA)%u2014has been targeted for possible closure under the SRA Preliminary General Plan currently under review (Chapter III-136).  Comments regarding the plan are due at Park Headquarters by March 24, 2008.

Shadow Glen has been owned and operated by the same family since the 1960s.  It caters to both private boarders and those in the general public who simply want to enjoy a day in the saddle.  From April through October, rental horses are available for the guided trail rides that wind gently along Mississippi Bar.  In past years,  moonlight rides hosted by the stable have delighted both young and old.

Shadow Glen keeps alive the spirit of the horse and rider and their historical prominence in the development of the trail system along Folsom Lake and the American River.  Please sign this petition to help us keep our hoof print on the map!

I have been going horseback riding at Shadow Glen for the past 30 years, and I want my children to be able to experience the same enjoyment that I have all these years.

I'm boarding my horse in Carmichael, CA and the state is trying to take it away from us as well. If it happens I'll have no other choice but to sell my horse or move him far away.

any time I can help keep animals and also help people keep there livelyhood I' all for it. One small thing, My granddaughter is almost seven years old and wants so badly to ride horses yet for some strange reason she cannot until she's eight. Is there something that happens when a child turns from seven to eight. I don't get it, but I wish you well in keeping your stable and horses. We love them.

Horses deserve a place to stay and be fed. If the government takes that away the horse population could go to a screaching hault in later years plz give the horses a home!

I learned to ride at Shadow Glen as a young girl 30 years ago. Now I'm a horse owner who recognizes the values that the equestrian lifestyle imparts on families and youth. Shadow Glen is an invaluable member of our community and cannot be replaced....

Shadow Glen was where I learned to ride and love horses 22 years ago. I bought my first from there from then owner Ralph. The place holds many great memories of my childhood, and after moving back to Sacramento recently, I plan to create more memories there as an adult. Closing it would be like closing a landmark.

I regularly leased a horse named Midnite at Shadow Glen when I was a little girl. I have wonderful memories of the place and I think the stables should continue to be there for future generations.

Do not close the stables since it is a great place to ride horses and enjoy the scenery. I have known this family for over 30yrs and they take good care of their customers and is a very clean place to ride a horse. Hi Ken Houston and hi Heidi...Best of luck to you!!

It would be such a shame to lose this great boarding facility. It is truly one of a kind in the Sacramento area. The access to trails is phenominal and the facility itself is a fun place to be.

I've been trail riding at Shadow Glen Stables since I was a kid. I enjoy having the fortunate opportunity to share something so special with my 13 year old daughter. Shutting this facility would be a wrong-doing to the community.

What good purpose does it serve to shut down a public equestrian facility? They provide a valuable sevice to the community and any new proposals should try and work around them.

I have not personally been to the stable, but have heard many wonderful things and actually wanted to visit. To hear that it may be closed is disheartening. I used to work at a horse ranch that provided trail rides to the public and remember the wonderful times I had taking out people and sharing the horse experience with them for the first time or one of many times.

Shadow Glen is one of many family owned businesses that contribute to the quality of life in the greater Sacramento area. It would be a sad, sad day if they were to close. Please keep Shadow Glen open for business!

Closing Shadow Glen would be a tragedy. There are so few places near Sacramento to get out on the trails, especially the wonderful trails around Folsom Lake and the American River. Equestrians are being pushed out due to urban sprawl and family activities surrounding the equestrian community are severely impacted by these closures. I have had to move my horse twice in the last 2 yrs because the boarding facilities were bulldozed and developed into tract homes. This is a tragedy! Keep equestrian and family activities alive by saving Shadow Glen.

There are few places yet where our children can enjoy nature amidst the hustle & bustle of daily life in suburbia. Companies like Shadow Glen dedicate their family's lives to preserving a little bit of our heritage that is lost to the glam of video games, television, and the modern day parent's obsession with soccer, karate and ballet. Please do not close this location.
