SAVE JOHNSON STREET BRIDGE

We are a new online group that wants to save Victoria's unusual Joseph Strauss-designed Johnson Street Bridge from demolition and replacement by the City of Victoria.
The City Councillors have not properly consulted the voters of Victoria to do this, and are now seeking to borrow $63,000,000 to finance the hasty ill-conceived project.
We prefer to see the present bascule bridge rehabilitated for posterity in the public interest of fiscal prudence, architectural preservation and social responsibility.
The City of Victoria has much more important human rights issues to attend to, such as housing, detoxing and rehabilitating our ever-growing homeless population.
Victoria City Council requires a so-called 'counter petition process' to stop the borrowing.
According to an article in the Friday July 10, 2009 Times Colonist by Bill Cleverley, 'residents have a minimum of 30 days to gather 10 per cent of residents' signatures on a petition to force a referendum on borrowing for a major capital project.'
If you are concerned about saving Victoria's signature 'Blue Bridge' on the Inner Harbour, please take a few seconds to sign our online petition to SAVE JOHNSON STREET BRIDGE for posterity.
