HELP SAVE KIDS WITH AUTISM!

Do you want your child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to lose necessary medical and education services?

If your answer is no, then read on and sign this Petition!

The American Psychiatric Association is proposing changes to the definition of "Autism" which will EXCLUDE Asperger's Syndrome and PDD-NOS, among other changes.  This means many bad things: (1) children with certain Autism Spectrum Disorders will no longer be diagnosed or will be misdiagnosed; (2) children will lose necessary medical and education services; and (3) children with these disorders will once again be shunned and bullied by other children and society.

WE NEED TO PREVENT THIS!

One commentator complained that the recent increase in incidence of Autism, now thought to be 1 in 110, is too high or is false.  Did others say that about the recent increases in diagnoses of peanut allergies? or Multiple Sclerosis?  or Alzheimers?  or Parkinsons?

This proposed change screams of conspiracy by insurance companies who have fought paying for medical and education services for kids on the Autism Spectrum for years.  Why else would the American Psychiatric Association change the diagnostic criteria?  They certainly wouldn't voluntarily choose to reduce their patient count and revenue!  They would only do that if insurance companies were threatening not to pay for treatment of certain disorders.

Sign this petition to show your support for all of our kids across the Autism Spectrum and we will take this cause to federal and state legislatures and to the American Psychiatric Association to make sure they continue to protect our kids!
As signers of this petition, we are parents, teachers, friends, brothers, sisters, grandparents, physicians, service providers, therapists, lawyers, and others who have or know children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Your proposed changes to the definition of "Autism" in DSMV is unacceptable and must be withdrawn.  The changes will have numerous bad effects, including without limitation: (1) children with certain disorders will no longer be diagnosed or will be misdiagnosed; (2) children will lose necessary medical and education services; and (3) children with these disorders will once again be shunned and bullied by other children and society.

One commentator complained that the recent increase in incidence of Autism, now thought to be 1 in 110, is too high or is false.  Did others say that about the recent increases in diagnoses of peanut allergies? or Multiple Sclerosis?  or Alzheimers?  or Parkinsons?  Would you be willing to place a loved one with a peanut allergy or Parkinsons at risk with no medical or education services?  If no, then don't do it to kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

If you continue with the proposed changes, we will take this fight to our state and federal legislators and to the courts and your costs resulting from the changes will skyrocket.  Further, you will lose patients and the revenue from those patients and referrals from other service providers.  So, if this is a cost-saving measure, in the long run it will end up costing you more.

Please reconsider this decision before you cause serious and irreparable harm to kids on the Autism Spectrum.
