Christine Gregoire's 2009 budget puts 13 State Parks on the chopping block, including Kopachuck and Joemma - the two beach parks closest to Tacoma and Gig Harbor. If you've ever spent time at either park you know how beautiful they are. Amazing beaches, walking trails, secluded woods, picnic tables, campgrounds, clamming, oyster beds - all of the things that make our area unique for recreation and outdoor activity. These parks are also part of the Cascadia Marine Trail - a water trail for kayakers or boaters on Puget Sound, designated one of only 16 National Millennium Trails by the White House.
There is still time to voice your concern over these closures. Sign this petition and email
pao@parks.wa.gov to let the government know that you want to keep our State Parks open.
Help keep recreation and natural resources on the radar as decisions are made. Call Washington's Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000 and leave a brief message that will be passed along to the three legislators from your district - it takes only a couple minutes! During the Legislative session, the Hotline is open from 8AM to 8PM Monday through Friday and from 9AM to 1PM on Saturday.
