The sanctuary in Tennessee has more than 2700 acres. Lucy is also living by herself at the zoo. At the sanctuary she will be among many of her own kind.

Please help this lonely animal to live more happily with her own kind in a more natural environment.It's cruel to keep a sociable animal, adapted to a warm climate and a large home range, by herself in the cold in a small space. She must be very stressed.

It is not fair that Lucy is stuck in Edmonton. She is lonely, miserable and totally out of her element. No animal should be treated this way!!!!!

Elephants are social animals. They need company. The Edmonton Zoo isn't fit for ANY animal, let alone an Elephant. Please, let the old girl go.

I don't think any wild animal, let alone one as Majestic as Lucy should ever be kept in a zoo...period, dot, it's exploitive. But, in circumstances where an animal is born in captivity it's environment should at least reflect it's natural habitat as closely as possible. Somehow I don't think Edmonton's -30 -40 degree temperature's during the long winter months cut it ( no criticism here, just stating facts, 2 of my favorite people in the world moved to Edmonton this summer ) The Zoo's obvious lack of space is unacceptable and the fact that there are no other Elephants for Lucy to socialize with is horrendous... after all Elephants are very social animals. An Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, although not perfect, seems to be a no brainier to me. I call on all of the good people of Edmonton, especially those progressive thinkers in the Strathcona area who recently voted for a change, support this petition.

I've always loved coming to the Valley Zoo to see Lucy, but if the climate and conditions are not good for her, she deserves better.

Captivating Lucy for entertainment and fun is similar to animals being tied and misused for street performances in developing nations even though those are done for earning thier daily bread for self and family.

Lucy has been in captivity for a very long time now. She should be freed and sent to her natural habitat.
