Save our Humble ISD High School Gymnastics Program

Humble Gymnastics Saved!!!

The athletes and parents of the Humble Independent School District gymnastic teams' thank you for the support you showed us during our drive to save the gymnastics program, which the school district approved just a few days ago.  We can't find the words to express the impact the almost 3,000 names from around the world had on the district's decision makers.  The electronic petition along with a paper petition of 2,000 names was presented to the school board.  The "star" names from the international gymnastics community that signed the petition were especially appreciated as that got us media attention.  And having Kevin Mazeika, the US Men's Olympic Coach speak in front an overflowing board room made headlines and turned heads.  But even more impressive was the emotional and heartfelt stories from current and former gymnasts (both Humble school district athletes as well as athletes around the world) describing how gymnastics impacted their lives touched everyone and reminded us that all of the effort was well worth it.  Gymnastics is a community we should all be proud of, so we thank you from the bottom of hearts.

For those of you that live in the Humble ISD community we have a favor to ask.  One of our parents, Mike Rafferty, who was instrumental in saving the program was so concerned about how the district conducted its business on this issue that he signed up to run for the school board.  We are seeking your support and commitment to vote for Mike in the upcoming election.  Mike is a long time district resident with 2 kids attending high school in the District, one of which is a Level 9 gymnast.  He is a genuine, thoughtful, and accomplished business leader who has guided larger organizations than the District to success and we trust his ability to "do what's right" for all of our children and our tax dollars.  If you desire, we would be happy to send you some additional information about Mike that will allow you to support him.    To do that we need your e-mail address.  Please send an e-mail to Ted Mandel (tjmandel@aol.com) with the subject line Mike.  There is no absolute guarantee this issue will not surface again given the financial issues facing the district.  The gymnastics parents know that having someone who understands the importance of all extra-curricular activities will be a benefit going forward.  Early voting starts April 28th and May 10th is the Election Day, so please show the District again how resolute the gymnastics community and its friends and supporters are and vote for Mike Rafferty.

Thanks again,

Humble ISD Gymnasts and Friends
