PPL Electric to Carve Up Native, Natural Landscape

Target:
PPL, PUC, US & PA SENATORS & REPS, COUNTY & TWP SUPERVISORS

Once again, global giant PPL Electric Utilities, is poised to desecrate the landscape of the beautiful Pocono Mountains, PA, cutting a 100-ft. wide swath through trees and vegetation in its path over a 6-mile proposed route, and erecting 95/105 ft. high electric poles.

This proposed route is particularly devastating because it goes through the only available open space left in the area.

In essence, it will destroy a natural habitat -- Jonas Mountain Nature Preserve -- through fragmentation, eliminating native species of animals and plants, opening the way for many forest undesirables. The preserve was created with public funds to be left untouched forever.

Just as importantly, the 100-ft. right-of-way will then pass through many active agricultural lands that have been in families for generations, and directly on the property lines of the one-acre parcels of hard-working middle class families who will lose the value of their homes and be subjected to health hazards associated with the high-tension wires. These families and other landowners are devastated because they know they will be unable to sell their land if needed in the future to survive.

It is the beauty and diversity of our dense forests, streams, natural habitat and active agricultural lands that has drawn people to this region for well over a century. Why destroy what is left of our natural heritage!

We are asking that greener alternative methods be considered such as wind or solar power and undergrounding of the transmission lines and any other means to avoid this desecration. Please help us by signing this petition.

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that you oppose the proposed PPL Power Transmission Line in the Effort/Jonas/Sun Valley PA area in its entirety, and the resultant devastation of public and private lands in a 100-foot wide swath over the 6-mile route.

We also ask that greener methods be used, i.e. wind, solar or undergrounding of the transmission lines and any other means to avoid this desecration.

Please support the public and private property owners to avoid their rights being trampled by this global giant. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Are you kidding me? Why would you even consider carving into some of the most beautiful land we have left?!!!! Obviously you've never been there, you have no consideration for the environment & you clearly have not thought this through. You should be ashamed.

A local resident took me on a personal tour of the Preserve this weekend. What a beautiful and quiet place! This placed should be preserved in perpetuity as it was designated to be.

The Power lines in this country are placed in the Cheapest way possible. They are put on lands that do not belong to the power suppliers. The use of IMMANENT DOMAIN LAWS has been the power companies, and the politicians who take there money, created a way of steam rolling over land owners who do not have the legal funding to stop them. No alternative solutions are explored in any way that would increase there cost. These companies have been sucking the life blood from the people of this country since there creation. It's time for a new path without the domination of private power companies and there political partners

The installation of USP's [Utility Scale Power] in solar fields, Wind, and GEO thermal are the main solution to this problem. I am a small business owner. I had to borrow money on my home to start my business. I've invested Tens of thousands of dollars in Training my employees, equipment, tools, and vehicles to keep it running as well as generating a profit to live on. The people of this country must understand that it takes money, to make money. The cheap upfront cost is not the way to survive in this country's economy. If we do not start now, it will be too late for any of us. The notion that Profit is the only thing that matters, has put us in the tough position most Americans are in today. If change does not happen soon, There will be no more chances and we will be at the mercy of China, and every other oil producing country in the world. We have already lost most of the FREEDOMS that our four fathers set up, fought and died for. It is time to take our country back from the extremest on the right and the left, and allow cooler, smarter heads to run things.[THE AMERICANS WHO WANT A FUTURE FOR THERE FAMILIES]

We value the few open spaces we have left. Please don't destroy that.

We were residents of Philadelphia for ten years, and have seen the destruction of far too many farms, apple orchards, and just woodlands. There just has to be another way to extend the needed power without destroying productive land and the value of people's property.

Wind, sun, everything that will allow us to stop denuding the land around us.

IS THIS REALLY FUNDAMENTALLY NECESSARY? WILL THIS SUPPLY POWER TO THE PEOPLE IT WILL MOST AFFECT, OR WILL IT BE SOLD TO OUTSIDE SOURCES? PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR MOTIVES AND THE EFFECT THIS WILL HAVE ON THE REGION AND ON THE EARTH AS A WHOLE.

This power line should be redirected to avoid the nature preserve.

Much wider use of HVDC lines would reduce the environmental impact due to their reduced clearance requirements and they could be buried in critical areas like the nature preserve.

There are those in the District of Coumbia who have a vested interest in seeing that natural resources are left natural, and inddustry does not overstep their bounds in the name of progress at any price.

I lived in this area for over 20 yrs and our family owned the property where we lived for over 200 years (yes, over 200 yrs). It is tragic that you would choose this route on which to locate your power grid! We sold this land to Chestnuthill Twp to be used for Open Spaces and a museum and hate the fact that you choose to ruin this beautiful area.

Why must this route be chosen when existing power lines could be followed, or the lines could be put underground.....

This proposed power line will have a negative impact on one of the last remaining wild and scenic areas in the Poconos...the Jonas Mountain Preserve should remain just that.."A Preserve". We are constantly pushing wildlife and natural resources to their limit. We need to stand together to show the power company we mean business.

As far as an alternative method of transmission? How about we just cancel the proposed project. We need to cut back on electrical use, not expand it!
