Putnam County owes it to the community to enforce the child safety
zones it established and ban registered sex offenders from certain
areas of town before an incident occurs and a child is forever injured.
Schools, child care centers, parks, playgrounds and town
beaches should be off-limits to registered sex offenders under the
ordinance established by the Board.
In late 2007, Putnam
County established one of the most strict ordinances in the state,
which is now a model being adopted by a few other communities.
We
take chances no more. The County should immediately post and
enforce the child safety zones by banning registered sex offenders
from certain areas of town.
The immediate safety of our
communities children should be of paramount importance to the members
of the Board of Legislators and we ask that you move on this with all
due haste before something terrible happens to one of our own.
