We the undersigned, want Ross Avenue to STAY Ross Avenue!
Renaming Ross Avenue will dishonor part of Dallas' history and the Ross brothers who were instrumental in the development of Ross and early Dallas. It will also waste important and much needed city tax dollars and cause an unfair financial burden on businesses along the 3.5 mile radius. Please help support us in saving Ross Avenue.

A better solution would be to rename some generic road like the Dallas Tollway in honor of Cesar Chavez

Dear Mayor Leppert and City of Dallas Councilmembers,
I urge you to NOT support a name change for Ross Avenue. As a new owner in the neighborhood, and a proponent of the new development along Ross Avenue, I truly believe that a name change will be detrimental to the neighborhood. At a minimum, an unnecessary name change will cost significant tax-payer funds. It is inappropriate and fiscally irresponsible to use tax-payer funds for this purpose. I do not wish to discount the achievements made by Ceasar Chavez. However, I am convinced the City of Dallas can find a more appropriate way to honor his achievements, than by completely changing the identity of a well-established neighborhood – a neighborhood that has helped define the great City of Dallas.
Please honor the wishes of those of us who live in this neighborhood, and DO NOT support a name change for Ross Avenue. Keep Ross Avenue --- ROSS AVENUE!
Best Regards,
Deanna M. Combs

Our firm "Lone Star Associates, Ltd" is the owner of two significant parcels of land fronting Ross Avenue in the Arts District.
We strongly oppose the renaming of Ross Avenue, one of the oldest streets in Dallas to Cesar Chavez Avenue. Ross Avenue has deep roots relating to the historical aspects of the City of Dallas. Ross Avenue has been inhabited by famous and influential individuals and families throughout its storied past. Historical homes, businesses, Churches and some of Dallas' most significant office buildings proudly lay claim to Ross Avenue addresses.
To take a street with 140 years of historic significance and consider changing the name to an individual who has minimal historical attachment to Dallas is beyond reason. It would be a slight to the Ross brothers and their ancestors, and would nullify an historical treasure names in honor of these distinguished gentlemen.
Reading through the history of the Ross brothers and the significance of Ross Avenue, it is beyond reasonable judgement that such a change would be approved by the City of Dallas.
You cannot deny that a street with such a rich and varied heritage should not be changed now or in the future for any purpose.

We have owned Ross Avenue since the early 60's. Ross Avenue is a Dallas land mark and SHOULD NOT be changed, nor split inhalf because down town skyscrapers have the power to demand Ross Avenue not be changed in there area. The name Cesar Chavez should be used on a new roadway.

I disagree with the renaming of this historic Dallas street. Historic east/downtown Dallas is one of the most important parts of the city, and this change will be a dishonor to that historic value.

I believe the City of Dallas should retain the name of Ross Avenue, rather than change it to Cesar Chavez boulevard. Ross Avenue as a historic business district that is being revitalized has direct ties to two Dallas pioneers who spent most of their lives as civic leaders within the early City of Dallas. While Mr. Chavez did notable things during his life, he has little connection to Dallas. What better way to tie an up-and-coming district to days gone by than by allowing it to retain its historic name.

As a Mexican immigrant I believe the street should be kept as Ross. Chavez is not relevant to Dallas History, and already has a plaza named after him at the Farmer's Market. Please, lets stop wasting tax payer dollars and energy over this issue.

This guy does not deserve the right to have his name
to be used for Ross Ave. or Industrial in Dallas as far I'm concerned.
Keep it the way it is to save money time and effort
for a man who did not do much for the city of Dallas
and who is not known and liked as much. Try Farmers Market or a street
near Love Field like Bachman Lake since more Mexicans live there
and people would appreciate it more.

When my Acadienne (Cajun) forefathers came to this country, they had been turned down at all ports along the East Coast. They settled in Louisiana, they learned the English language, their culture is strong in southwest Louisiana, and would not THINK of trying to force that culture on other cities by re-naming one of their historical MAIN streets "Evangeline".

I must have been mistaken, for I thought it was only registered voters that get a say in what our city does. I find it frustrating that we allow internet votes to dictate the course of action our city council takes. Leave Ross alone. Instead, put up the Internet poll again for the renaming of Industrial, but this time, in addition to Cesar Chavez, please include Hank Williams Jr. Blvd. as an option. It makes about as much sense. Hank Williams has been to Dallas far more than Mr. Chavez ever had, and I'm sure his concerts have more directly contributed to our local economy than Mr. Chavez. For far too long country music fans in Dallas have not had a voice in our government and this could be our chance. That's the same kind of sound reasoning that started this whole thing so let's do it!

As a voting resident of Dallas Texas, I want to express my strong conviction that Ross Avenue should remain Ross Avenue. Almost every Dallasite has sentiments attached to Ross Avenue, and there is a certain historical cachet that people here ascribe to the road. To change the name would mean changing all these equations, in some little way, if not totally. To be blunt though, renaming Ross is a slap in the face of the prestige of the name, a slap in the face of history, and a slap in the face of us hoping to have groups that do some serious work for our city rather than focus on pure politics.

I do not support renaming Dallas Streets. Most especially, I do not support renaming streets which were named for early Dallas citizens who aided in the foundation and growth of Dallas. Additionally, it makes a difficulty in trying to give directions to people to find locations when street names are changed.

I agree that the name should remain the same. What is the valid reason to change it? If it represent history it is like throwing it away if we change the name. We have streets that need to be fixed and many other problems that would be taken care of with the city tax dollars. It would be a waste to use it to so something that is not needed versus what is!
