Save Starship!

Target:
Everyone

There is a section when you open up the Sunday Star (Toronto Star) called IDEAS. And in that section is a one-paged newspaper-in-itself, "Starship," for kids. It's probably the best one-paged thing in the world. People can write in to it and have the chance to be seen in the newspaper.

Sadly, the newspaper may come to an end due to low ads. People will lose this chance when the newspaper comes to an end. There isn't many things like this out there. There's an annual story contest and this year's brought in over 1000 entries! That comes to show that lots of people like me love this paper.

Please help us save Starship, even if you don't live near Toronto or Canada. I don't want this to go.

We need Starship!! If kids start to read the newspaper now, even if it is the kid's section, it will surely have a good influence on them in their adulthood. They will read the newspaper and become informed adults, which most adults aren't!!! We need a section for kids; the newpaper should be for everyone! Plus, kids should be able to show their talent by publishing stories!! Please save Starship!!

I don't care when, but "Starship" was amazing and deserves to come back!

As a kid, my favourite thing to do on a Sunday morning was to open the Toronto Star and read the cool things happening in Starship. As I got older I started reading other sections of the Toronto Star. Therefore, Starship is what got me to be an informed member of society. Now, when I read the IDEAS section, I still scan over Starship and remember Sunday mornings as a kid. Save Starship!

I am one of the authors who won in this year's Starship contest, and I would hate for others to not have the same chance that I did!!! It's hard for an author to make a living in our world, but a page like this helps young authors to get recognized sooner, which can ultimately help them make a career in the future!

Every Sunday morning, The Starship Page gave families an entertaining and informative page to share. They could tell its jokes, have a peek into the life of Canada's wild animals, play Search and Matching games together. The Annual Kids Writing Contest gave many kids an opportunity to write a story. Each year Starship provided a page of tips for young authors. CHILDREN OF FAMILIES, WHO READ TOGETHER,ARE MUCH MORE LIKELY TO BECOME LITERATE, LIFELONG READERS. PLEASE GIVE STARSHIP BACK TO THESE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES.

In your 'business' decision you overlook that little readers of the paper become bigger ones later. But far beyond that Starship reminds us of family and that it's not all about news, finance and sports. Starship stimulates kids in reading, discovery and creativity - Lose Starship and you lose a Sunday family tradition. This is a reality check for the Star. Do the right thing.

Starships are immensely useful, especially in the occasional case of worldwide catastrophe. Humans of all ages should study starship technology.

More Science and less sport. Science gives to the planet and the human race for all time.

I truly hope you reconsider eliminating the Starship section as it provides children with excellent reading opportunities. As a teacher, I have directed many young readers and future writers to this section of the Toronto Star!

Please save the Starship. It is a wonderful place for kids of all ages. How many places are there in any newspaper where a kid can have fun?????

The enjoyment I got out of entering the story contest was what inspired me to get involved in publications ranging from Starship to my school and community newspapers. The end of Starship is a huge loss to the Toronto Star and all its young readers.

I find it appalling that the Star lacks the foresight to see that showing their disdain now for young readers will come back to haunt them as they try to deal with their direction as a newspaper in the Internet age. These kids will learn to get their information elsewhere. How does that maintain their current and future interest in thestar.com ?

I read that the bean counters are picking on the Starship kid's page. Torstar profits are up 25% - thats a lot of beans.Too many beans make you mean. Bean counters are bullies .

Starship has plenty of readers and contributors that truly believe it makes a difference. It promotes creativity and literacy to kids. It provides kid oriented information in a fun, cool way. I question the Star's business decision to kill the section and disenfranchise an entire demographic of future readers.

i really think star ship should be kept.m it is one of the only newspapers that encourages kids to read newspapers at an early age as well. think of the beenefits it will have towards sales of the star when they grow older, and encourage their kids as well to read startship.
