The Steve Erwin wildlife reserve is a wetland conservation property and tribute to the lat Steve Erwin, and is home to a set of 3 important spring fed wetlands which provide a critical water source to threatened habitat, provides a permanent flow of water to the Wenlock river and is home to rare and vunerable plants and wildlife.
Cape Alumina Pty Ltd has lodged a mining application to strip mine 12,300 hectares of the reserve over the next 10 years commencing 2010. The proposed area for mining contains the headwaters of irreplacable water ways and unique biodiversity which will not recover after mining is complete.
Some species located here include the rainbow bee-eater, egrets, snipe plus the endangered speartooth shark and the vunerable freshwater sawfish.
Help Terri stop Cape Aluminia from mining here but signing this petition. Im also collecting signitures around my hometown which get forwarded to the mining industry through Terri. Help save Steve's legacy.
We the undersigned, request that Cape Aluminia mine elsewhere for bauxite as this reserve will not recover once the damage has been done. We will lose vital habitat, plants & animals that live in this area; not to mention that this is Steve's legacy, proving that one person can make a difference.
