SAVE STINGRAY CITY FROM BECOMING A FLOATING BAR/CLUB

When you think of Grand Cayman Island you think of two things, great dives and Stingray City.

The Liquor Licensing Board of Grand Cayman met 10 December and granted a retail liquor license and music and dancing license to Bernie Bush for the new operation. Mr. Bush explained that the idea had been well-received by the tourism industry in general.

What they are proposing is a floating bar that will service swim-up customers at Stingray City. The potential for environmental impact is to large to ignore. Garbage that falls off the floating bar can easily choke the inhabitants of the North Sound.

SAY NO TO FLOATING BARS IN THE NORTH SOUND!
SAY YES TO STINGRAYS

Have your say. Tell the tourist board that you WILL NOT travel to Grand Cayman if such a business is allowed to potentially destroy a natural wonder.

A brief "tale" of Stingray City:
Located in the North Sound of Grand Cayman Island is one of nature's most beautiful prizes; Stingray City. A natural habitat for stingrays for years it has been told that it came to be by fisherman pulling into the sound to clean their catch, out of the waves past the reef. These brilliant rays realized that every time the fishermen came in they would get a free meal. Legend has it that the fishermen were sitting at a bar chatting about these "sharks" in ear shot of a dive master. and the rest is history...

We the undersigned, encourage the government of Grand Cayman to reverse their decision to allow floating bars to access  Stingray City. Stingray City should be named a heritage site and protected.

By allowing licensed boats with "swim up bars" you are encouraging people to interact with wildlife without direct supervision from trained professionals. Alcohol is proven to lower an individuals rational think process. We must remember that we are dealing with wild animals. Animals that can injure people should the ray feel threatened.

Please reconsider this decision and protect not only the stingrays of the North Sound but the very tourists that drive your economy.

It is hard to even comprehend that anyone would think this was a good idea. There are enough places to drink alcohol without having to create a drinking hole at the best tourist attraction that Cayman has. Can we not just enjoy the natural spectacle of these creatures without having to drink?? I don't think anyone should be allowed to even drink beer in the water - I have numerous times had to pick up empty bottles littered on the bottom of the sand.

Would never support any tourist enterprise that endangered wildlife.

These creatures have been in this area long before we the intruders invaded their world If there was some one that invaded one of our cities or country we would put up a fight and call for assistance from our allies. This is what this petition is, assistance to the fight to save the rays.

I would be coming to see the stingrays not the floating bar. I hoping that this attraction will not be destroyed and I can bring my children to the wonderful site. Having a bar would destroy the ecosystem. Then you would then have a bar with no attraction. Think about it guys

No way

Whiel working on a cruise ship I had the privilage to go to Stingray city- what a wonderful -uniqur - beautiful place and experience. DO not ruin it by making it something you would see anywhere- its an attraction all on its own - making it a big bar would not only be bad for hte enviroment but a real shame for everyone who had yet to see it as a natural beauty.

NO

The Stingrays are a very important natural resource to the Cayman islands. The Cayman Islands people, the North Sound deserve to be left in its natural state. Please let our children and grandchildren enjoy the beauty untouched. A bar is not what people go to the Sand bar for. There are plenty of those around

I would not support a destination that threatened the Stingrays.
