Music Education Attacked at Tamaqua's School

  • Always has been 5 Music teachers in the Tamaqua School District, as recent as 2 years ago this was cut down to 4 1/2, and now plans are to cut it down to 4 for this coming 2010-11 school year.
  • The district's elementary and high school band directors will now be teaching some general music education courses
  • Repercussions: At least 30 less music lessons per week being taught which will cause a decline in the number of student musicians, less time to prepare the band for community performances such as Memorial parades, Veterans Parade, Fireman's parade, and football game field show.
  •  The Elementary schools will have 1 Music teacher to teach all of the classes. Repercussions: no teacher preparation or transition time and quality of music education will drop which affects future musicians.
We the undersigned feel that the quality of our music education in the Tamaqua Area School District is going to be adversely affected by the proposed changes by the administration.
For those of you who feel that the affects of the changes are detrimental to our students as well as our community, please sign our petition that we will present to the administration and the school board.
