Beyond the tribal court reinstatement, the Nation is committed to keeping the Freedmen descendants as citizens until all litigation has been resolved %u2013 and beyond if they prevail in court. Congress should allow the Federal and Tribal Courts to do their work without interference.

We the undersigned wish to petition the Congress of our United States as an indication of our deep concern regarding the necessity of preserving the Nation of the Cherokee as a federally recognized entity. Please recall the indignation ALL faced as a direct result of the take-over of the indigenous peoples lands and rights. I strongly urge you to publicly oppose H.R. 2824 and any bills or appropriation amendments that would be detrimental to the Cherokee Nation! If passed, this will infringe on the Cherokee Nation's sovereignty.
They are trying a new tactic to just rid themselves of the bothersome Natives we over ran centuries ago, nice - I guess this is another example of compassionate conservatism.
This is another one of Bushs's big money deals. He signs off on Animals lives and now he wants to take away from the One People who were here before any of us. We are by rights trespassing on their land. We are no different than the Illegals that come over here. Do we have to take it all?

I am a member of the Echota Cherokee of Alabama. This is bullshit!!! First they push them selfs onto a land where they are unwanted! Then they steal the land from the rightful owners through murder, rape and deception and force the first people from there homelands onto reservations to steal the gold that was once rich in there homelands! And you know where that gold is today fort knox! its what backs up the money that we keep burning from dumping it into a war that has nothing to do with us! you know where else its going into the pockets of these fat greedy politicians! I think this is again Americans showing that it thinks the American Indians are less than the other citizens of this great nation. Remember the great injustices of the past. I thought we were far past this petty discrimanation. I and my family are proud citizens of the United States and have been here since the boats first arrived here. We are also proudly share the Cherokee blood line. Please do not consider this bill. It would be a great tragedy to the great and proud Cherokee nation. We have made so much progress in this last century as a nation united. This would only take away from all the progress we have come by.
My grandchildren are of Cherokee heritage and the Cherokee Nation should remain as it now is. This is very important to all people of Cherokee heritage.
From one who is Choctaw I see a lot of the wrong doings by our government especially in promises not kept. We need to do away with the political system! Government speaks with fork tongue!!!

How can we with any good conscience even be considering causing these people any more hardship than our Nation has already inflicted upon them.

Throughout history since the Spaniards and Europeans stepped on North American soil they have worked to eradicate the Cherokee people and other Native tribes from the soil. We must resist the few remaining Cherokee bloods and mixed bloods must stand united to preserve our name and our heritage and our gifts to American culture. We have a basic civil right to exist as a Cherokee Nation and continue to preserve a culture and a history of oppression and suppresion by migatory populations over time.
Congress should not have the right to declare ANY group of people in the United States as "NOT being a nation". This is so wrong. Native Indians were in the United States, BEFORE it was the United States. This would include the Cherokees, they are STILL a nation.
We as a nation have stolen enough. Its time to give back what is not ours to keep.
Please reconsider the bill your voting on. I am one American Indian of the Cherokee Nation. I can not register because of my Great Grand Parents not signing into a reservation yrs ago. I believe in our Heritage and wish to preserve it as an Individual country. We were here first...all else are Immigrants in our Country.
