Save the ICP Philosophy

Save the ICP Philosophy

Target:
Dekalb County Police Department and Dekalb County Commissioners
Below are the signatures of DECA area community members and Dekalb County residents who support the Interactive Community Policing Philosophy.  We urge the Dekalb Police Department to commit an ICP Officer on a full time basis to active communities who participate in Neighborhood Watch.

ICP has made a substantial difference cleaning up criminal activity in our area.  Continued, consistent and sustained attention must be given to the area to decrease the foot hold the criminal element has on our community.  Only with the Dekalb Police Department's commitment to ICP does our community have hope of reversing this trend. This is our appeal for the Dekalb County Police to commit to our community's success by honoring the promise of a full time ICP Officer's presence.

Sincerely,

Dresden East Civic Association

I have lived in this neighborhood for 4 years. I was never so happy as the day I saw the mobile crime unit in front of Midway ES. Our home had been broken into a year and a half ago. As aweful as the experience was, I felt a little better after speaking to the detectives. They made me feel like the really knew the area and persons of interests. Having increased police presence is very important to us all. Please do not decrease the police presence in our neighborhood.

It is critical to keep the ICP in place in Dekalb County, particularly in the Dresden East area. Having the officer in the area has reduced the crime rate here.

This is a Bridge which allows communications with the Police which is the best approach so far to help with community oriented problems facing the public as well as members of the Law enforcment community.......It not only needs to be maintained but needs to be enhanced.....Otherwise the only communication between the respective two only occur after something has happened!!!!

Nicole Labelle says it best, "I know that there are difficult decisions that have to be made when the economy dips and the revenue for public services is significantly reduced. However, this program provides both tangible and intangible benefits - a demonstrable reduction in the amount of crime in these neighborhoods, resulting in an increased perception of safety for the people living in them. The latter is so important, because if people do not feel safe, they will eventually move out of the neighborhoods, home values will decline, and the neighborhoods will eventually become places that welcome the type of people who would perpetrate crimes. Please find a way to make this program a high enough priority that it will not be cut. Without a doubt, the long-term benefits will outweigh the short-term cost savings. Thank you!". I couldn't agree with her more! Sincerely, Karen Martinchich

Our house has been targeted several times for attempted burglary - while we were home! I must tell you it is an incredibly traumatic experience. The more support residents have to take action against unwanted elements in our communities the better! I fully support this program. Not only does the ICP build stronger communities, it also helps send a message to criminals that we are not going to be victims.

Given the recent rash of burglaries and attempted burglaries in the Appling Heights area, I believe this program is more important now than it ever has been. Please do not cancel it.

The neighborhood watch program enables you to feel that something is being done about the crime within your community. It also helps to build a bond among the neighbors within the community.

I support this program 100%. I and my neighbors had tremendous problems with vagrants/tresspassers taking up residence in a vacant property in our neighborhood. The ICP officers helped us clean up the property and continued on to clean up most of the neighborhood. This is an excellent program, because residents get to know the officers, therefore are more apt to share information with the police. AND the officers know the neighborhood so can quickly assess when something doesn't look quite right.

The ICP is necessary to maintain safety for the residents of White Oak Hills regardless of budgets, the ecomony, or any other political issues within the police dept. or the county.

Why would anyone want to not keep our neighborhoods safe, these neighborhoods are where are children play, enteract with others, grow up and become lawyers, doctors, police officers, fireman. If we don't have them to guide us we can't begin to tell you how hard it would be without our ICP Program. It works an we can prove it the crime in the Alverado/Jackson area has gone down tremendously. We need to keep our officers here and make them noticable. I have lived here over 40 years, an by god I will help take our neighborhood back. The criminals can't have it. Criminials leave our neighborhood is waht CLONe stands for and we have been doing it, makeing a difference. It was safe then and we will make it safe again with the help of the N/W and our ICP progaram and VIP program. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

The ICP Progam has been a crucial component of the DeKalb County Police Department. With it we have seen a tremendous improvement in public safety in our neighborhood. The ICP team has helped us clean up our area and I am very appreciative of their efforts. I hope that the county continues to support this program as we are an example of it's effectiveness. Thanks to all the staff of the DeKalb County Police Department for the dangerous work that you do each day to make our county safer. Your work is invaluable in White Oak Hills!

I spoke with the person who is helping the CEO thru the transition letting him know how important the NW/ICP/VIP programs are to the residents of Jackson Dr and Alverado way NW - CLONe. Hopefully he listened and will pass this on to our new CEO. Hopefully our new CEO will listen! If not, we, the residents and VOTERS of Dekalb County WILL remember!

We have to be proactive and help our police officers by letting them know what we see going on in the community. Let's keep the momentum in improving our neighborhood.

Without the effort of our fine officers and there dedication and determination to keep us safe in our neighborhood and our efforts to clean it up we would be no where. If we lose this program all of our hard work and efforts to clean up Dekalb will be in vain. do you really want our children to grow up in harms way or do you want them to grow up in a clean an safe enviorment where they can ride there bikes play hop scotch, jump rope, play hide and seek without having to worry if they get shot or kidnapped and then molested and killed, people stand up for your rights and back up this great community of ours. You have lived here for years, now help it out and lets keep out ICP Progaram alive. It is working for us.
