Save the Women's Studies Program (Ball State University)

Target:
Anyone who supports quality education
In the 29 years that it has been in existence, the Women's Studies Program has proven to be a reputable and successful program, graduating some of the most successful young professionals out of Ball State University.  The enrollment numbers have consistently increased each year, and the program boasts the largest number of majors and minors of any interdisciplinary program on campus.  These thousand signatures represent the opposition to the changes that will compromise quality education, classroom space, office space, opportunities to intern, and the chance to be a leader and activist in the community.

The best experiences I had at BSU were involving the Women's Studies deptartment. I would like for other people to experience that. Those professors were the most dedicated, hard working, and caring individuals. They make every person feel important. I was always at home there. Please do not change that!

I don't mind changing the name of the program, but I see absolutely no reason to get rid of the resource library or women's week. I don't understand how getting rid of those two things is beneficial to anyone other than the university as a way of making budget cuts. One thing is for certain, it sure makes the university, which has tried to pride itself on diversity, look very sexist! Quit being so cheap or cut one of the many stupid events you tend to needlessly pour money into!

I am astonished that any institution of higher learning would abolish a program which is so clearly important in our society. This has lessened my opinion of Ball State.

The classes that I took in the Women's Studied department were the best classes I took at Ball State. I was given the guidance necessary to research specifics topics of interest and was always introduced to topics unfamiliar to me. I hope that the Women's Studies department will continue to guide the women and men attending Ball State.

It is frustrating when you are suppose to be working with a college to get the education you deserve and you both have a mutual understanding with one another. You agree to pay for your education and in return you get the best possible services that college can give. I agree with this petition whole heartedly and support those willing to fight for their education.

this is an area of study that foucoult would say is indespensible for the study of politics and power. other than that- it would be a step backwards! this is an indespensible part, not only of college; as a segway into womens support mechanisms at work in society, but also as society as a whole; a society that must be consious of the politics that dominate the lives as human beings!!!!!!!!

The courses that I have taken in the Women's Studies Program have been some of the most fulfilling and life-changing courses that I have taken in my college career. What is happening to the program is a travesty brought about by people who obviously do not understand how much of an impact this program really has on people's lives.

This program truly helped me grow as a student, researcher, person, and most importantly as an active member of society. The professors are second to none and the caliber of higher-level thinking that occurs in these classes is paramount to future students at Ball State.

Ball State's attempt to "bury" its Women's Studies program is regrettable and reflects poorly on the entire University. The reasons for such a decision are clearly political and have nothing to do with academic quality.

I am truly disappointed in BSU's decision to remove the Women's Studies program from their curriculum. That is not the type of decision I would expect from a University that is supposedly progressing and "redefining" education. Additionally, a large amount of money was recently raised in the name of a personal friend that died earlier this year. She was a graduate of the womens' studies program and passionate about the cause. The money was donated as a grant for BSU's Women's Studies program.
