SAVE WAILUA NUI CULTURAL AREAS

1.

save Wailua Beach from a "boardwalk" bikepath that will drill and screw into the sands 13 feet 68 times and disturb Hawaiian Burials. Hawaiians did not bury pe0ple the way others did. They buried on the sands of the beaches.
ALL of the beaches.

Goal 2, is to aquire the lands commonly known as COCO PALMS, but actually it is Wailua Nui full of sites of archeological and historical
significance. We want to see it turned into a cultural park. It currently has the rotting carcaass of a hotel that was famous 60 years ago. It has been like this for 18 years. The foliage and trees and growth have reclaimed this area.

3. We want to run a more culturally appropriate "feeder" path that will connect to the County path through a proposed Cultural Park that will not intrude on Cultural sites.
Help us save both the ma'kai (oceanside) areas, and the Ma'uka (mountainside areas) of the Wailua Nui Hoano sacred compolex. Help us to aquire the land for a cultural park, and put in a small bike and walking path that will connect to the parge bike/pedestrian path the COunty has planned.

THe one currently planned has alignments that will hurt sensitive archeology on both sides. THe rotting carcasas of the Coco Palms resort, built in the 50's, and ruined 18 years ago during Hurricane Iniki has been reclaimed by the land.

We want to return it to the people for all of the public to enjoy, and allow our indingenous poeple to share the history and culture while perserving this area.

In the sands, are the bones of the Hawaiian poeple. In Hawaii, that is where people were buried. The plan to drill 13 foot holes into these sands 68 times to place a "boardwalk" through it is unnacceptable culturally. A path planned behind the resort may also unearth burials.

We propose a 4th Alignment which hinges on aquiring the land from the current developers who in several years have not done anything with this sacred land.

They are currently planning to rebuid a hotel there. However there are 4 other major hotels already being built in this area. Our roadways are also slated to be widened which will impinge on this property.

We want the land returned, a park put on it, and the sands of Wailua, the last area without hardening be left alone.
