Save Wildlife on Shea Homes Property

Save Wildlife on Shea Homes Property

Target:
Tim Roberts, Vice President, Development, Shea Homes
Shea Homes is currently BULLDOZING 600 acres of prairie dog and dependent wildife habitat to make way for more homes in "The Backcountry".

Additionally they recently "removed" all the prairie dogs at Lucent and Highlands Ranch Parkway, 100 acres to be sent to the black-footed ferret program as food.  This last significant parcel of wildlife habitat will be turned into a Super Target and other commercial development.

Shea refuses to relocate prairie dogs to their own "Backcountry Wilderness Area" wildlife refuge in Highlands Ranch or to a private ranch citizens found willing to take prairie dogs.

We value the Highlands Ranch wildlife and demand Shea preserve our native Colorado wildlife. We specifically ask that Shea allow humane relocation of remaining prairie dogs to  the "Backcountry Wilderness Area" or other wildlife refuge.

We, the undersigned, value the Highlands Ranch wildlife and demand Shea Homes to preserve our native Colorado wildlife whenever possible.   We specifically ask that Shea Homes humanely relocate the prairie dogs currently being bulldozed to suitable areas within the Backcountry Wilderness wildlife sanctuary or other sanctuary.  We understand that suitable habitat exists and  prairie dog conservation groups will relocate the prairie dogs at minimal cost to Shea Homes.

Thousands of prairie dogs and dependent wildlife have lost their lives due to development in Highlands Ranch.  Shea Homes was the owner / developer of all the land in Highlands Ranch.  We ask that in these last developments they develop around or relocate the wildlife.

It makes me sooo angry, and sick to my stomach, every time I see a new "Private Property - Shea Homes" sign go up next to a gorgeous piece of pristine landscape. It's almost as if they are driving around saying, "Let's find the most serene and beautiful lots around and pave it all over with houses and concrete!" And what about the coyotes, owls, hawks, prairie dogs, snakes, rabbits, etc. who called those places home first??? If Colorado doesn't wake up soon, Shea Homes will be well on its way to turning Colorado into another Southern CA, which was once beautiful orange groves and open space!!! IS THAT WHAT WE WANT? ANOTHER SOUTHERN CA??? With all the traffic and smog and a minimum of at least 30-45 minutes to even make a QUICK trip to the store? Why can't open space just be left alone? Go away, you greedy, ruthless jerks!

This was our first and last Shea home. Never again. They have a total disregard for wildlife and nature. At our subdivision Wrenn Meadow in Apex, NC they have basically cleared all the remaining trees. We were the second residents here, and when construction picked-up were shocked to see all the beautiful trees around us gone. Now they are not seeling the cleared lots... Please don't buy from Shea. Learn from our mistakes.

I request that Shea Homes relocate rather than extermine prairie dogs. They are a vital part of the environment and are deserving of humane treatment.

I am currently looking for a new home and I can promise Tim Roberts and that I will NOT buy a house built by Shea Homes! I will look for property built by a responsible developer, who took wildlife into consideration before building. Shame on you Tim Roberts and Shea Homes!

I was considering investing in a property in the Back Country, but with this kind of reckless behavior without a commitment to preserving our wildlife I am reconsidering!

Yet another example of corporate greed. "They loved living here. But I can't let them stay. They'll have to find food, and I hope that they may. Good luck, boys! Good luck! "-the Lorax.

The prairie dogs were on the land before anyone else. They deserve to live their lives.

My kids and I used to watch the prairie dogs every afternoon. I had read that they were to be relocated so we went to say goodbye and wish them well. To find out that they were destroyed is devastating!

I am sick to my stomach - these little creatures were so amazing to watch. Why would a company choose the more expensive plan and not relocate them? I am so angry and heart-broken. This was needless - NEEDLESS, SHEA!

My kids love to stop and watch the prairie dogs whenever we are over by Lucent Blvd. and it makes me so sad and angry to find out that Shea is killing them. How do I explain that to my kids???

I think the Prairie Dogs have a right to live in the community and NOT get relocated or killed.

I've been involved with several prairie dog relocations and am a professional in the environmental field. I know that relocations are economical and humane - why not opt for the most humane and economical "disposal" method possible? And for what - a new Super Target and residential area? It's just sad that people always put their needs and wants above the welfare of the rest of God's creation, even when they can do the right thing that will enable them to have their cake and eat it too.

I am outraged to hear about the bulldozing and killing of the prairie dogs by Shea Homes. We currently own a Shea home, but we will NEVER buy another Shea home until this practice is stopped. Shea homes, please begin using relocation practices ASAP!!!!!

To whom it may concern, There is no reason to kill the prairie dogs. I like others are willing to send some of our hard earned money to help relocate them. To simply kill them by rolling over life in a bull dozer shows a complete disregard for LIFE. I am accept we need to develop areas whether I agree that we need another target or not, but what I do not understand is the complete disregard for living creatures. I am willing to help faciliate a workable solution and understand the need for business to meet a time line and budget. I am a controller for my company. I think if we partner together we can find a workable solution for everyone.

It is more important to protect the quality of life than develop every inch of land in Highlands Ranch. If Shea Homes continues with uncontrolled growth and development we will choose to leave.
