Save Woodham Warriors BMX Track

Ever since I got back into BMX racing 2 1/2 years ago I have always wanted to get the track in South Woodham Ferrers reopened.  After talking to a couple of people I knew who rode or raced there we decided to give it a go.  It seems we were just in time.  After an initial talk with the council today it seems that the land the track is on is earmarked for a total re-development at the start of the New Year.  They plan to build a big sports complex with football, rugby and hockey pitches and part of that plan is to flatten what is left of the BMX track.

There are plenty of places to play football, rugby and hockey in South Woodham, but there is no where for anyone to ride their bikes apart from on the streets.  This is not safe or practical and can often be seen as a nuisance.  We propose to reform the Woodham Warriors BMX club and get the track rebuilt to its heyday of the 1980%u2019s.  This can be part of the redevelopment of the area and will add a great attraction to the town, as well as provide a fantastic facility for everyone in South Woodham and Essex as a whole to enjoy.

BMX racing is one of the fastest growing sports in this country.  It is a fantastic and exciting sport that everyone can enjoy, male, female, young or old. There are age groups from under 5's to 40 plus, so anyone can take part and compete at all levels.  It has been included into the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and a new track is going to be built at Stratford for the 2012 Olympic games. It is a great way to get kids off the street and involved in something constructive, and be part of a community.
