The new grantee ( Acelero Learning) for the Clark County Head Start has implemented changing the Head Start program hour and days of service. From a 4 hour, 5 day a week single session program to a 3 1/2 hours, 4 days a week double session per each site with the same teacher and teacher assistant teaching both A.M and P.M session, mandatory 12 month program effective August 1,2008. In this change Acelero has also decided to implement drastic Salary cuts and work hour reductions, and employee paying a portion of their insurance cost. The mandatory 12 month program effectively eliminates almost half of the teaching staff.
Initially they grandfather all staff into their current position at their regular salary, now 2 months later they have effectively reduced salaries and at the same time demanded additional job requirements. These steps caused demotion of staff and decrease in salary.
If you feel like most of the staff and want to uphold the importance of quality pre-school education, pay comparable to years of experience and the ability to support your own family; you are asked to sign the below petition. Times are difficult for everyone and these changes will make providing for their families a very hard struggle and life stressful.
