Save Illinois MAP Grants

Target:
Students, Parents, Communities, Educators
Sponsored by:
Unless we act now, 270,000 Illinois college students will receive either no MAP grant aid or just half of what they were eligible to receive. We want students, parents, communities, and educators to urge their state legislators to fully fund MAP for the rest of this year.

To that end, I hereby support doing whatever it takes to restore full MAP grant funding.

Well I don't make enough money to pay for school. So I wouldn't be able to go to school.

We need MAP grants, so many people use them and we really do need them or else going to college goes out the window.

my daughter is a college freshmen, and due to the cut of the MAP in 2009 my child status for the MAP grant was withheld. As a mother of 4,it is hard enough to raise, let alone trying to send them to college..

Cutting the map grant would force me to get a full time job while balancing a full time schedule at school

Map grants are important to both educators and students because, it allows students to take part in becoming educated and gives teachers an opportunity to teach.

Education is very important. This grant will help the many students possesing potential who seek higher education get the funding they need to further their education without worry or disturbance.

I am in school and I can only work part time and I need this funding

Without the MAP grant, I would be forced to get a job while studying, causing me to stretch my precious study time further and I would noticeably loss focus on my studies. I wouldn't be able to keep as high of a gpa, ultimately affecting my progress in college and my career opportunities afterward.

This is not a sound decision, cutting funds from education will come back to bite the state, the country, and the world. No other field of funding is more important than eduction, without education people have no hope and turn to crime, drugs, violence, ignorance, and hate. No other field that could possibly be funded by this money will better serve illinois. Don't fool around with educational funding.

I use MAP to get supplies that I need for school and help with bills At home and I will not be able to afford it if itbe cut.

Cutting the MAP will affect alot of student's lives because it supports most student finanically

Cutting the Map Grant funding means; for everyone, that we are and will be limited to the education level that we currently have unless we can afford to pay for school and all aspects there of. It means that all people who can’t pay a full tuition, will not only be limited in education but limited with employment growth and/or employment. It is a vicious little cycle that is only one step toward achieving the separation/division of what will become the Two classes in this world/society; that’s the Have’s and Have Not’s”.

The Governor here in Illinois had a "ticker tape" parade and everything. He even shook hands with college students ensuring us that we would have the funding for Map. Two days later, it was announced on the news that he hadn't signed anything of the sort. What of that? Please address this funding with the highest of priority. No one person should have the power to limit ones life.

Well I am a transfer student who is trying to live a dream. By attending Columbia College, I'll be a step closer to my dreams. It's an expensive school, and I'm not someone who is made of a lot of money, so that extra help surely helps.

We need to focus on the present, but more so the future because we are the next generation. If students like myself don't have the money to attend college, then soon enough college plans will be out of reach. Therefore, lets help us become a successful, innovative generation for the future to come.

My son has used the MAP grant and I know several others who have also used it. This has provided an opportunity for my son and others to further their education. I sincerely hope that the funding will continue.

I personally know several young people who will have to give up their dreams of finishing the education they have devoted the last couple of years to, if their funding is cut. What kind of hope do we give them, or for that matter, future generations, if we let them down at a most urgent time in our history?

It is already difficult for young people to afford a college education. Please don't make it impossible. These children are our country's future. How can any of us ignore the impact not only personally to our own progeny, but to the already tentative position of the U.S.A. in comparison to other countries, some of which even have free Universities! Can we afford to lose any possible future diplomats, scientists, teachers, doctors, Presidents, and the like?

I am a parent of a first year college student. I am disabled and depend on grants to help my son stay in college and become a productive man in this world. There are so many black young men going in the wrong direction and when we have those that want to pursue a better life why is it that it becomes harder for them to stay focused. We don't need the worry of finances we need for my and your child to be focused on education. If you can give billions to company's that are doing nothing but putting money in their own pockets, then I am sure you can find money for people who have dreams of one day being that businessman that you are giving billions to. Save the future of education for the less fortunate please!!!!

We, the less fortunate depend upon this money for our children future.

Without adequate funding college would be out of reach for me and my family. Working a minimum wage job, even full-time, does not give anyone the opportunity to attend college.

College is hard enough. Please do not make us have to work more and study less. The quality of education is the most important aspect of future goals.

I am transfering to uic in the spring semester, and although i would be recieving in state tuition, everything depended on the MAP grant. If I did not recieve it, I would not have enough to finish my college career. We really need to save it.

As a single Hispanic father of 3 , We need all the financial aide we can get. It is tough out there supporting 3 and trying to make sure our children get an education. Please do not discontinue any aide."A mind is a terable thing to waste" !

We need to educate our children not stifle them. We are falling behind the rest of the world .In health care availablity and now education! Where is our agenda?

If MAP is cut, I wouldn't be able to go to school, work and be a full time mother. I need funding like the Map to go to school.
