Save the Whales Again!

Save the Whales Again!

Target:
Whaling at Japan
Sponsored by:
Sign the Official Whaleman Petition here.

The mission of the "Save the Whales Again!" Campaign is:

- To end all commercial and scientific whaling worldwide by Japan, Norway, and Iceland.

- To end the brutal drive and harpoon hunts of Japan and the Faroe Islands which kill over 25,000 dolphins, porpoises, pilot whales, and other small whales every year.

- To raise public awareness to all the other threats dolphins and whales face including toxic pollution, noise pollution, global warming, loss of habitat, entanglement in fishing nets, collisions with ships, and increasing whaling.

The words above are taken from the official Save the Whales Again website. I want to extend my support of the campaign by bringing it here to the Care2 website. I believe all of you guys would care about the whales so bringing the petition here would help gather more signature for the petition. We need a million signatures but right now, I will only set the target to 100,000.

The PSA will tell you that the deadline for the million signatures was on June 2009 but it was extended to June 2010. I know we can do this.

You can watch Hayden Panettiere's PSA for the Whaleman Foundation here.

Please make sure that when you sign this petition, you also sign the Official Whaleman Petition here.

Whaling is a major issue and needs to be stopped!

I was flabbergasted when I saw the horrific treatment of dolphins and whales by commercial fishermen. Not only are these completely defenseless animals, but the fact that these animals are totally unsafe to eat and yet are still killed and sold for consumption is outrageously unethical. All commercial and scientific whaling must be stopped, as well as the commercial killing of dolphins.

Whales are amazing creatures that deserve much more respect than humankind gives them. Not to mention we know more about space than we do about our oceans... should we really be messing with that eco-system if we know so little about it?

I think many of the people participating in these slaughters are not fully aware or are being willfully ignorant that dolphins and pilot whales are not fish but mammals as humans are, with one of the largest and most developed/complexed brains in the animal kingdom....larger than the human brain and approaching a similiar brain to body size ratio of the human brain....many scientist speculate that dolphins and whales are possibly more intelligent than the great apes and are one of the few species on earth beyond the great apes that have a type of intelligence that may in many ways approach human intelligence. These facts make killing these animals even more barbaric. Although in earlier times the people of the Faroe Islands, Japan and Iceland may not have known this and were ignorant because of lack of scientific evidence....now there is an abundance of scientific knowledge available showing these animals to be of a higher order of intelligence and worthy of a great deal of respect. People protesting these slaughters should carry signs showing a photograph of a dolphin/whale brain compared to a fish's brain which is the roughly the size of a pea or smaller....these brain photographs are available on the internet. These slaughters are wrong and should stop.

Save the big blue beasties Don't use them for your meatsies Don't shoot them with harpoons Don't eat them with your spoons Don't cut them into tiny pieces Then serve them up with different cheeses They don't do any harm Why must you cause them such alarm? Just leave them be Down in the sea Put down your sails Save the whales!
