Expansion and Modernization of the Cherokee County Consolidated Shelter
Target:
We, the undersigned, request an expansion and modernization, and eventually relocation and rebuilding, of the Cherokee County Consolidated Animal Shelter.

Our current shelter was built many years ago before the recent growth of our community. The cats are confined in the same area as the dogs, which is detrimental to the health of the cats. Also, sick and aggressive dogs are kept with healthy dogs. Due to overcrowding, healthy animals are being killed to make room for other stray animals that are being brought in on a daily basis. We need a larger and more modern facility that is animal- and people- friendly. This expansion will not only save lives, but will encourage more of our residents to visit the shelter as potential adopters. A more modern facility will ensure that the animals who find themselves at our shelter will be housed in a safer and more comfortable place until they can be adopted.

I am an animal lover and often rescue pets myself. It makes me furious that people don't have any more respect for animals than they do. I have visited the shelter and it is a pitiful sight.

A better shelter would help the animals that are being killed or dieing to make room for others. with a bigger and more kennels put into place the workers would be able to care for the cats and dogs better and also have a better chance to getting to placed into a home.

Just moved here from another county, I just cannot belive the low quality of this shelter, and until a week or so ago the way animals were put to sleep (heart stick) I had never even heard of that, We have to take better care of these animals and realize the overpopulation issue is our fault not their fault. The people working at this shelter the couple of times I have had a run in with them seem very unkind toward animals and just too ready to pick up more.

Giving animals a second chance for life is something that should not, can not, be ignored and denied. Every animal in a shelter deserves the oppurtunity for a better life with a loving family, and helping to make the shelter, a temporary home, even better is to provide the animals, and future animals, with the things needed to make their lives better.

A rescue group brought my dog up to NY from this shelter. He is a perfect, wonderful dog! I know this shelter gets many other wonderful dogs like mine. The quality of your dogs is wonderful. Please try to get them more time and better shelter conditions.

I think the shelter needs improvement so the animals are given a chance to be adopted. People need the time to arrange rescue , pull and transport sometimes. Makes for healthier animals too.
