Say "NO" To Mandatory HPV Vaccine!

Bypassing the Legislature altogether, Republican Gov. Rick Perry issued an order today (Friday, February 2, 2007) making Texas the first state to require that school girls get vaccinated with "Gardasil" against the sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer. By employing an "executive order", Perry sidestepped opposition in the Legislature and from parents' rights groups.
Perry has ties to Merck, the company that manufactures "Gardasil". Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass state laws across the country mandating Gardasil for girls as young as 11 or 12. It doubled its lobbying budget in Texas and has funneled money through Women in Government, an advocacy group made up of female state legislators around the country.
When a child is born it is entrusted into the care of it's Parents, not the Government. Just as ludicrous as taking this decision out of a Parent's hands is the fact that this vaccine has no test results proving that there will be no long term Health risks, as it is "new". There is a safe way to deal with this problem. However, the Governor and Merck do not stand to profit from it.
Parents can have their daughters opt out of the inoculations by filing an objection on religious or other philosophical grounds. Even with such provisions, such requirements interfere with parents' rights to make medical decisions for their own children.
Please tell Governor Rick Perry that what he is doing is wrong! He needs to reverse his order, take the money he stands to gain back out of his pocket and put this decision into the hands of Parent's/Guardians.

Your order to vaccinate girls as young as sixth graders with "Gardasil" commencing September 2008, is nothing short of gross ignorance. Young girls do not need this vaccine.
The very fact that you side-stepped their own Parents in making this decision is irresponsible to say the least.
You also stand to prosper greatly from this heinous act. You set, what we hope is "not" a precedence for other States to follow.
Governor in this plain and simple Petition, we demand that you reverse your order. Put this decision into the hands of the People. This would be the right thing to do!
Report abuse I have 3 daughters that will be coming of age to receive this vaccine. If this becomes mandatory, I will pull my girls from public school and homeschool them. This is ridiculous that legistlators are requiring children to get vaccines that are a very personal matter between parents, doctors and their children. HOW DARE YOU MAKE PARENTAL DECISIONS LAW? ARE WE STILL LIVING IN AMERICA??????
Report abuse My 16 yr old daughter received the hpv vaccine in 8/07 she developed an onset of symptoms about 3 weeks after getting the first dose of the vaccine her symptoms are anything but "mild" the main complaints are pain in lower extremities started in legs and has spread to hips low back and now mid back causing pain when taking a breath heart palpatations symptoms have not improved but have gotten worse swelling only when she lies down swelling occurs in her hands feet and now her face as well. swelling last for approx. 2 hours after getting up pain and tingling, prickling sensation in her hands and feet till the swelling subsides migraine headaches dizziness difficulty concentrating The past 12 months have completely changed her life and she is unable to participate in the activities she once enjoyed. we had to place her on homebound due to the amount of school she has missed. I have taken her to numerous doctors and so far have gotten no relief or answers for her symptoms. Although result for lyme was negative she was treated for lyme as a precaution. She has been seen by a Neurologist, 3 Rheumatologist, Infectious disease specialist, Diagnostician, and 3 pediatricians, She sees a pain specialist She is currently seeing a naturopathy and we have not had any relief as of yet. Gardasil has hurt, crippled and killed girls, my daughter is one of them WAKE UP AMERICA WERE KILLING OUR CHILDREN AND OUR FUTURE you can search online and find parents everywhere looking for answers comparing test results from doctors and hospitals we have nowhere to turn except to each other and our experience's everything now is trial and err these are our daughters were trying to diagnose and heal, nobody will admit that gardasil is at fault. please investigate and get the word out before more girls end up paralyzed, seizures,fibromyalgia, thyroid problems or worse.

Report abuse My daughter was a healthy, athletic 19 year old before she got the vaccine. She then developed a seizure disorder, muscle aches and bebilitating irritability. There are thousands of stories just like ours. Healthy young women are being injured by this public experiment called Gardasil. Stop allowing Merck to make billions of dollars off our suffering. Govenor Perry, you need to do further research on this one. You could be putting thousands of young women's lives in danger by passing this bill.
Report abuse My daughter received her second shot of the Gardasil on June 5, 2008 and 3 hours later was having a hard time breathing. She was taken to the ER where some of the staff didn't even know what Gardasil was!! To make a very long story short, she had difficult breathing for almost a month, was put on 6 different meds that did nothing to help her. Once the breathing cleared she began having odd chest pains, then pain in the lower part of her body. She now has extreme fatigue.. Please do not make this mandatory. It is not safe!
Report abuse Politicians should be removed from office when personal gain is more important than the people's choice. Using executive order in this manner is arrogant and irresponsible. I'd guess that this Governor is a power-loving, greedy person. I equate voting such a person into office with hiring a serial killer as a police officer.

Report abuse I am 27 and briefly considered getting that shot. Then, about 10 seconds later, I heard the list of potential side effects. I am one of those who winds up getting at least half of the side effects, even those which there was minimum chance of getting! Besides that, how do I know I won't have an allergic reaction to Gardisil? I have quite a few food allergies/intolerances, so that is constantly on my mind. And to FORCE us to get vaccinated with a medicine whose effectiveness has not been adequately proven is unethical. Then again, why would I expect anything better from the man who was lieutenant governor under George W. Bu$h?
Report abuse My youngest daughter is now 14, and like most mothers, I will do anything to insure that she has a long healthy life. However, I don't think anyone has the right to make my baby a human guinea pig. There are just too many side effects to this drug for me to feel good about having my daughter take it, one of which is STERILIZATION. Why is it that it took the FDA 20+ years to approve anything associated with the treatment of Aids, but this drug is approved in record time after only a few years of testing. I don't object to giving my 14 year old daughter this vaccine if it can definitely save her life and leave her with no lifelong damage, but I do have an issue with a drug that can potentially END her life or leave her with lifelong issues like seizures, strokes, heart attacks or infertility. GARDISIL tells us all these things are a possiblity with the use of this drug which has been found to prevent ONLY 4 of the more than 100 types of human papillomavirus. My question is....with the company admitting this, why then, are our State Government Agencies and Insurance Companies mandating that we make our daughters get this vaccine? I always through that it was a parent's obligation to PROTECT their child from anything that could potentially harm them. Who gives the government and insurance companies the right to intervene in my right to protect my child? All we parents are asking for is MORE DRUG TESTING/LESS SIDE EFFECTS. Our daughters are worth that.

Report abuse Its called population control, this vaccine is rumoured to sterelize our young girls, the trials for this were over a 2 year period with 1200 girls, majority with reactions, that's not enough time to test anything
Report abuse I am apalled that the government would want to give the hpv vaccine. What are the chances of anyone catching hpv? What are the chances that someone is going to experience the affects on their body from the vaccination- 100% if they are vaccinated. What are the side affects? what happens 20 years from now?
