Say NO to Nuclear Waste in N.B.!

Say NO to Nuclear Waste in N.B.!

Target:
10,000 signatures
Sponsored by:

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is looking for a place to build a massive nuclear waste dump in Canada, and it believes that New Brunswick's geological formations would be suitable for the long-term storage of the entire country's radioactive garbage!

We the undersigned draw our elected officials' attention to the following:

That:

  • radioactivity is a cause of deformities, cancer, and death

  • transporting nuclear waste to New Brunswick could result in accidents causing contamination spills that would harm the people of New Brunswick and contaminate our land and watersheds for millennia

  • the impact of storing large amounts of nuclear waste deep in the ground are unknown; will need monitoring for millennia; and could cause horrific accidents or contamination hundreds of thousands of years from now

Therefore, we petitioners call on Premier Shawn Graham and Members of the Legislative Assembly to reject any plans for a centralized, nuclear waste storage facility anywhere in New Brunswick.

We also call on all mayors in New Brunswick to similarly reject any plans to locate any such centralized nuclear waste storage facility in this province.

We've been burned enough. It's time to do something about it and make sure we don't give even more debt to our children.

I personally do not agree with the placement of nuclear waste being anywhere near any form of civilization, because of the dangers it can bring, which is a little too close to home, and in any incident that may occur with a nuclear leak or explosion, consequences are sure to be fatal. Frankly, we don't need to put ourselves and others at risk any more thant we already do!

Even if this project created thousands of jobs here I would NEVER agree to this. Myself personally I would never bury my garbage in the neighbours yard. The province which produces the most nuclear waste is the one who should take on this project.

We have many many studies and poves yhat the smelter in belledune has polluted our environment, but nothing was done ,nothing is and nothing will.Lots of money but no health for the future generation. Many not so glad to be retired........cannot enjoy their retirement to sick for that, too late!Nuclear waste storage facility in this province will prove again that our politicians have not the courage to stand up and do something. Money talks!

Since nuclear energy will be imposed to us by local governments in a near future, at least, since we have the choice about the nuclear waste dump, let's stand up and say NO right now.

Haven't we polluted our planet enough? Do we really want our children and future grandchildren to deal with more of our messes? I'm horrified by the thought of a nuclear landfill in New-Brunswick.

Even IF there were no long term dangers of storing the nuclear waste here, just the image that this would give to New Brunswick would affect the province in a very negative way. I have learned that the facts are not as important as the perception that the people have towards something. And if people think it's dangerous, than they will react as if it is. It would affect everything all the way to tourism. Our future generations woudn't even want to live in this area anymore and that could have a disastrous consequence in the long term. What is the point of having jobs if there are no people living here to take these jobs???????
