Adam, the 8 week old kitten that was set ablaze in a cage by two teenage girls.

SEVERE PUNISHMENT for KITTEN BURNING!

Target:
District Attorney- Stephan Passalacqua- Santa Rosa, CA
Sponsored by:
Update: December 6, 2007-

Adam has been adopted by his nurse and caregiver, Tina Wright. Adam is doing very well,  and the outcome of the trial is still not public knowledge.

Please continue to sign this petition, as it is still important that the DA see how we feel about such a heinous crime.

Update October 22- 2007- THE GIRLS ADMIT THEIR GUILT!!!!

The trial only got as far as reading the list of witnesses when the girls admitted that they were indeed guilty. The girls will be sentenced three weeks from now and they will ask for a sentence that includes rehabilitation.

Two teens  set a kitten on fire in a cage on June 21 in Santa Rosa, CA.
Currently D.A. Stephan Passalacqua is working towards a felony charge, however with the plea bargaining that takes place often in juvenile cases, it may be dropped down to a *misdemeanor*, or the girls could get off all together!

According to the PETA web site: "Acts of cruelty to animals are not mere indications of a minor personality flaw in the abuser; they are symptomatic of a deep mental disturbance. Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty to animals don't stop there as many of them move on to their fellow humans."

The Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County have been deeply involved in this case:

Please sign this petition pleading that the most severe punishment be given to the criminals, despite their age.  Forward any additional comments to the Santa Rosa District Attorney, Stephan Passalacqua:

We the undersigned, believe that animal abuse is a precursor to future violent crimes and will not be tolerated. To burn an innocent creature in a cage shows no remorse, no conscience, just pure evil. Please sign this petition and forward to anyone you know who loves animals in order to prevent future acts of violence towards animals. We also believe that in such an extreme case, juveniles should be treated as adults, and felony charges should be applied.

Thank you for taking the time to speak for those who do not have a voice. Thank you to so many of you for putting in your personal comments! Adam will finally have a voice!!!

Dear Fellow Signers,

I received news yesterday that the trial for Adam went very well. Because the girls are minors, the records are sealed, however it was relayed to me by a accurate source that there was a significant punishment, and the girls are now having to face the consequences for their actions.

Adam is happily living with Tina, the vet tech nurse who adopted him. He is doing well, and very much loved. I wanted to thank you all for your support of this issue. Hopefully it will be the beginning of a trend towards taking animal cruelty much more seriously, and punishing those who commit such heinous crimes in the future.

Thank you- Susan, Santa Rosa, CA

It is just a matter of time until these girls do this to a human. People want to think that this might be a one time thing, but people that harm innocent animals move onto hurting other innocent creatures, like children!!!!

What these girls did is outrageous. Their ages should not matter since they should know right from wrong. How can they laugh when watching an innocent animal screaming in pain that they have caused? What else could they be capable of doing if they thought this was so funny? It is just horrible. I'm glad Adam is now safe.

If they are already cruel at a young age and we let them get away with it, then thats encouraging them. Why not just go shoot up the a school? This behavior almost always leads to this.

i STRONGLY believe in the "an eye for an eye" concept, so, put the girls in a cage and set it on fire!!!!!

Please let the community know that Sonoma County is a county that cares for the voiceless innocent animals. You can make a difference by doing whats right and sentencing these girls to the sentences they deserve. And make sure that people get the message that Adam does matter and have a voice.

I myself am 15 years old and have no sympathy for the girls that did this. They should be punished severely, to hurt an innocent creature that is unable to fight back is one of the worst things that anyone could do.

What these girls did was atrocious. Their age is irrelevant - doing something like that to defenceless kittens is not only inhumane and inexcusable, but also a prelude to other, more seruious attacks, possibly even on people.

at least people have the ability to defend themselfs but a helpless little kitten!? people who mistreat animals are discusing and diserve far more than 3 years in prison!

It's "inhumane" to burn them and follow the "eye for eye" rule, which would make society today different, had it been included in our modern laws. But they do deserve way MORE than just 3 years in jail for this. Just because it is an animal, does not make it any less different. It is a living, breathing thing. It feels pain, and it's innocent. If someone took a baby and set fire to it, I'm sure the whole state would get up and make sure the people were rightfully punished. But since it was just two kittens, no one cares, right? I wish animal cruelty laws would be tough and cruel back, for the tormentors. They deserve it.

a society is judged by it's humane treatment of humans and animals.

How can anyone ever do such a thing like that to an innocent animal?? It's horrible and they need to face the consequences.

Animal abuse is the first sign of human abuse, if this crime is not treated as a harsh offense, these cruel girls will just inflict more harm to more animals and humans. You cannot set a living creature on fire after intentionally locking them in a cage with out sound mind and full knowledge of the pain and probable death that will result from such an action. thank you for listening. This kind of crime, animal cruelty and abuse has got to stop. We're supposed to be civilized. It's about time we start acting like it and expecting our citizens (regardless of age) to do the same. Punish to the full extent of the law and make stiffer penalties as well. THANKS!

This was an unspeakably cruel act by these girls. If not for the heroism of one boy, poor Adam would have been dead. Thank goodness that he has come as far as he has with all the loving care he has received. These girls need to be punished severely not just a slap on the wrist. If not, what will they do next?

This act of setting Adam and his brother on fire is DISGUSTING, HEINOUS, INHUMAN, INHUMANE AND NEEDS TO BE PUNISHED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW! Please punish the girls who committed this crime to the fullest extent allowable. If these were my OWN children I would expect no less!

Please put these girls away for a long time(or at least as long as the law will alow) or do to them what they did to the poor kittens. Animal abuse hurts us all.
