Should we have to say something we dont believe in?

Target:
Having the right to say or not say the pledge of allegiance
Sponsored by:
I am a 16 year old boy in Delaware, and my teacher says that we have to say the pledge of allegiance, but I reminded her that there is a passage in the Constitution that says we dont have to if we dont want to. Now, the part i dont believe in is the part that says "with liberty and justice for all" i dont believe that is what America really stands for because we still have racism, high gas prices, rich not having to pay taxes, illegal aliens getting drivers licenses, etc. And until this stuff is resolved, hopefully by Obama or Clinton, I will not and cannot say this part of the pledge of allegiance. If they want to take God out of it because they dont believe in it, then we can take out stuff we dont believe and I need your voice!

I don't get how illegal aliens receiving licenses goes against liberty but... I don't believe we stand for it anymore either, anyway. I never said the pledge of allegiance, but then again, no one else in my class did either (but out of laziness, not beliefs). I don't think we have to but a lot of teachers seem to think we do. It should be in student handbooks and stuff.

I don't believe that saying the Pledge of Allegiance should be mandatory for anyone - but not for the reasons mentioned in the petition. The "liberty and justice for all" phrase is not meant as a statement of the way things are - but how we wish them to be. No society throughout human history has ever achieved perfect liberty or perfect justice. Considering that human nature is imperfect it follows that human society will always be imperfect. But, like the saying goes, "Democracy is the worst form of government there is.....except for all the rest of them."

I personally refuse to say the pledge in school, or even stand up during it. Yes, it does get some odd looks, and I have actually been sent to the office and threatened with detentions if I don't say it, but it's not like they can do anything. Legally, you don't have to say anything you don't want to.
