The Silk Purse is a local consignment shop in Toms River, NJ selling fur. Our goal with this petition is to show the that consumers do NOT want skeletons in their closets - so please sign below asking the Silk Purse to stop selling fur!
Unfortunately, I recently discovered that the Silk Purse has been selling fur.
You may not be aware, but animals raised for fur go through awful conditions and die horrible deaths. They live short, painful lives filled with disease, famine, stress and fear. The animals (including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, chinchillas, foxes, raccoons, and rabbits) cannot take more than a few steps forward or backwards and often go crazy - self-mutilating themselves, cannibalizing their cagemates, and pacing in circles repeatedly. Minks are especially stressed by this - in the wild, one mink often occupies up to 2500 acres of wetland. When these animals are killed for their fur, they are often beaten first in a pathetic attempt to stun them or break their necks. Normally this fails, and the animals are skinned alive, writhing in pain and fully concious. Other methods of slaughter include genital and anal electrocution, strangulation, drowning, and cruel steep traps.
Fur is not fashion - it is cruelty. People who parade around in a coat made from dead animals promote this awful industry - and while 'vintage' furs may be decades old, they still support the buisness. For this reason, I am asking that you join one of the many stores that refuse to sell fur - including big-timers like Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, Forever 21, J.Crew, Gap Inc., Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, and many others.
