A Message to Working Class Americans and Others Who Care about the Dire Economy:
We are asking working class Americans and the rest of Main Street to organize in a show of strength and support for those struggling across the country because of a need for jobs and for economic self-empowerment. In addition, we need to send a message to Corporate America that while many are unemployed, others who work are struggling due to lack of cost of living pay increases which are way below the inflated cost of consumer goods. These inflated prices affect every single American, regardless of income and it appears that the trend toward inflation and the trend toward decreased cost of living pay raises will only get worse.
We are proposing that Main Street take a pledge to tighten its belt and use each Thursday in a productive way without spending money unless it is absolutely necessary. We call this day %u201CSpend Time %u2013 Not Money Day%u201D. Thursday will instead be a day that Americans spend time doing things related to educating themselves and others about the economy for the purpose of economic self-empowerment. They will discuss ways to limit spending while making significant budget cuts at home and passing on ideas to others. In addition, they can think of and suggest ways their employers can save money and time.
There will be designated page to share suggestions on this site.
Examples: Spend quality family time on Thursday evenings, plan a low-cost gathering (pot luck or brown bag), movie night at home, evening at the library or Thursday night %u201Cchat%u201D, community involvement, visit a neighbor or sick and shut-in. The list is limitless. Please share your suggestions.
If you agree that this is worthwhile cause, please sign the pledge. You can sign for spending time even if you are not in favor of refraining from spending on Thursdays.

I, _______________________, do hereby pledge to support %u201CSpend Time %u2013 Not Money Day%u201D in an effort to send message to our legislators, Corporate America, and others that %u201CWe want jobs NOW!%u201D I further agree to share this pledge with family, friends, organizations, social networks and other interested parties. I will do my best to not spend money on Thursdays for as long as this effort is ongoing and if I must spend money on some Thursdays, I will still honor pledge to spend time toward supporting effort to be informed and to inform and share suggestions for economic self-empowerment.
