Stand behind the US Marines in the assault by Berkeley

Stand behind the US Marines in the assault by Berkeley

Target:
To demand that Berkeley CA repairs relations with the US Marines
Sponsored by:
We the undersigned, being free American citizens and residents, demand the city of Berkeley California take immediate action to repair relations with the US Marines Corps and the US Marine Corps Recruiting Center located at 64 Shattuck Square in Berkeley California.

We demand the following actions be taken immediately by the City Council of Berkeley and/or the Mayor of Berkeley California:

1. On January 29, 2008 the Berkeley City Council voted 6-3 in favor of sending a disgusting letter to the above-mentioned Marine Rucruiting Center informing them that the Marines are unwelcome in Berkeley, as well as referring to the servicemen as 'intruders' and 'uninvited'.

We demand
a public retraction of this, as well as apologies from the City Council and Mayor to the US Marine Corps and US service men and women worldwide offended by these outrageous comments.

2. On January 29, 2008 the Berkeley City Council voted 8-1 in favor of giving the anti-military group 'Code Pink' a designated parking space one day a week in front of the Marine Corps Recruiting Office in Berkeley California with the sole purpose of disrupting the Marine Center.

We demand that this misappropriation of city funds be rectified immediately and the permit revoked. Local businesses as well as the Marine Center are impacted by this 'free' parking for a group determined to monopolize "free speech" rights in Berkeley, and we feel local businesses should not be subject to the impact and penalty made by the 'free parking'.

3. On January 29, 2008 the Berkeley City Council voted 8-1 in favor of giving the anti-military group 'Code Pink' a sound permit allowing them to violate city noise ordinances in weekly protests aimed at disrupting business at the Marine Center. The sound permit allows, among other noise violations, bullhorns to be used to greatly amplify the noise generated by the protests. We believe the city is wrong to allow Code Pink to violate city law and to disrupt businesses with the sound permit. The laws protecting businesses and citizens from excessive noise exist purely to stop actions of this nature. The funds that pay these Council members and this Mayor should not be paying for direct violations of the law carried out by said members and Mayor.

We demand that the noise permit be revoked for Code Pink immediately so that business, as well as the peace, can be restored to normality on Shattuck Square.

By signing this petition, you are declaring that, regardless of political affiliation, we are united in our gratitude to our Armed Services and the freedom granted to us as Americans in our Declaration of Independence and enforced by our great military. We understand that America as we know it, freedom as we know it, and liberty as we know it is due to the enormous sacrifices by the men, women, and families of our military to protect this free nation. Regardless of personal views each of us may hold on the war(s), we as AMERICANS stand behind our military in their constant battle to maintain our freedoms that we hold so dear.
We the undersigned, being free American citizens and residents, demand the city of Berkeley California take immediate action to repair relations with the US Marines Corps and the US Marine Corps Recruiting Center located at 64 Shattuck Square in Berkeley California.

I am a product of a military household and I am genuinely dishearten by the situation and think these assholes fail to realize they only have the ability to act as the fools they are BECAUSE our troops are busting their asses in less than favorable conditions to protect OUR RIGHTS!

So you don't like the marines, yeah most people don't like anyone more honorable and dependable than they are. remember that if it weren't for Marines,Sailors and Soldiers that had the guts to to defend this country and the freedom of speech that gave you what you think is the right to slander and dishonor in the name of freedom. You couldn't show the whole world what kind of lowlifes you are.Try pulling your stunts in a communist country. Better yet why not pack up and go to one of Venezuela and protest against the goverment and MR. Chavez I'm sure He'd be real tolerant and understaning of lowlife honorless people.

The only reason those hippies with nothing else to do have the right to be obsurd is by the blood of who they are opposing. Sell Berkely and all its liberals of to China. I believe they would enjoy their Human rights better. Grow up hippies and live in the NOW!

Mr. Mayor: It is hard to believe that the citizens of this town are letting the likes of these so called americans ruin your town. They should be celebrating the fact that they have FREEDOM and count their blessings. Personally, I think they should be escorted to another country.

If anything ever happened they would be asking the government and the military for assistance. Where would any of us be if it wasn't for the military. Freedom is not free.

Mr. Mayor How appalling that the US Constitution even allows the US MARINE CORPS to even exists and allows men and women to serve in a organization that has defended this country for the past 233 years. Where would we be as a country if the Marines were never around? How would you a man of color think the Japanese or the German military and government would have treated you? How about the many different peoples that our US MARINES have fought for in the past as their song say's "In Every Climb and Place". They have even laid their lives on the line for atheist, socialists, christian, hindus and even Muslim men and women. Yes even dictators and justly elected governments. These men and women deserve your respect and gratitude, not your scorn and hatred. I hope the men and women of the military do not find out what kind of imbeciles they are fighting for. I hope the never find out what kind of citizens who reap all the benefits that they have fought for over the years really think of them. I have a idea. SECEDE from the union create your own country. Live the way you want protect your selves from all enemies foreign and domestic as they have sworn to do with their very lives if necessary. Don't forget that "Foregin and Domestic" part. I believe we need to exercise some of that domestic part now. I will pray for you and the council. I hope things work out and you never need a Marine or any other Military man or woman. You sir do not deserve the sweat for their brow much less to be defended by one. Semper Fi (Translation: Always Faithful) From a Former Marine Danny Faircloth

I am appalled by the actions of the Mayor and City Council of Berkeley, California. I guess none of you think you owe any of the freedoms we have here in the United States to the very same Marines you are telling are "Unwelcome" in Berkeley. Since you all are so willing to tell the Marines they are unwelcome in your community, why don't the participants in signing this letter take the place of the US Marine Corps in defending the freedoms we have as well as the borders of this great country we live in? Further, how can any of you justify the misappropriation of the tax dollars you are spending in your rediculous campaign against these soldiers? Are you all so self-rightous that you believe noone in your community is a Marine, or has children, neices, nephews, grandchildren, etc., who are Marines? You all disgust me. I am thanking GOD that I do not live in Berkeley.

dear readers, Living in the area of New Orleans and seeing the impact of our national guard in New Orleans and the citys aroud them after hurricaine katrina was one of our (as a metropolitan) first signs of hope. The city council should feel imbarrashed and ashamed for treating our armed forces this way. in my opinion our troops are welcome in my city, in my HOME, and anywhere else they need to be or want to be. the organization of our military i would have to say is a little more creditable than a city councils filled with ignorant people, and if there was any reason for troops to be there, than im sure the military knows better than a small council filled of idiots. how much more un-patriotic could a city council, especially a mayor, be?? this is an out rage and berkley owes them an appology now! in america we dont need our own mayors publicly making our county look bad like this. not only should an appology be issued, but i feel that mayor should be asked to resign. And next time a cat.5 hurricaine heads to the U.S. we will direct it to berkley, and we will see how they feel about military support then! matthew mikovich

This Mayor and City Council are pathetic. You should all step down and leave this country in shame. You don't deserve to live here. You live all your freedoms because of brave people like the US Marines. You should be thanking them everyday. You can be a liberal free city only by all of the work of the US Military. Freedom is not free.

I appreciate the freedom we enjoy and understand that freedom is not free. I applaud and admire our brave armed forces who serve us and I am ashamed that a city has treated The Marines in this manner.

Dear City Of Berkeley, I am just dismayed that again, here we are with you in the news. Do you know how you actions reflect on the rest of US that live in California? No, I don't think you do. Most people think we are stark raving mad, left wing zealots, who hate the United States, and more importantly hate our military. I don't and neither do my family nor the friends or family that I have here but let me tell you my relatives and friends that I have across this country think otherwise because of all your antics. While I am all for free speech, and allowing Code Pink as repugnant to me as they are, they have a right to protest. However this crap would not fly outside of your city. Serious question here: Is there something in the water or air you people drink and breathe up there because every wing nut that comes down the pike, the minute they open their mouth and begin to speak one word comes to mind: Berzerkley. Now while I am sure that you don't like being called Berzerkley, it really does fit. You people have brought this on yourself. Funny thing is, if something really terrible in your city happened (earthquake, fire, flood, terrorist attack) the first people you all would be scream about for help would be to get the military in there to help you. These brave men and women that serve this country are the very essence of what it is to be an American. While I respect the fact that you don't want to fight, respect is a two way street here. They do want to fight. They want to fight to protect the very right that you have that enables you to do what you do. How sick is that, yet it is your right. You would not be able to do this in other countries. Try doing it in Iran. How about Turkey? How about Russia or China? You all would be thrown in some gulag somewhere, never to be heard of again. So the next time you think about disparaging our troops just think of this: While you vehemently express your anger and disgust over the US Marine Corps, just remember that they provide the very blanket of freedom that you sleep under each night, to wake up and do what you do each morning. Is it too much to say a simple thank you and just leave it at that? You are giving California and those who live here a bad name. Please stop.

I cannot believe that "citizens", and more importantly members of a "government" body have the audacity to insult and abuse the US Marines, while allowing the terroristic actions of Code Pink et.al. to go with the apparent support of the "government." You seem to fail to realize that those people you protest against are the ones who give you the freedom to protest. Perhaps you need to establish yourselves near Basra where you are certain to be welcomed, as they always are looking for infidel examples.

The Constitution mandates "provide for the common defense." Those who cannot share that burden have no place in our society, much less in government.

GET A JOB YA OUT-OF-DATE-HIPPIES! Join me in a BOYCOTT of ANY Berkley stores and companies operating within Berkely/Oakland city limits; i.e. IKEA in Sacramento is easier to get in and out of anyway. I am driving AROUND that hole by the bay until they fix this, so they will not be getting my bridge toll either. Those fools need to protest at the office of their representatives, senators and officials who approved the war if they do not like it. Leave the recruiters alone. That is like going to the farms in Salinas to complain about how much you are charged for organic lettuce! Serves NO purpose except to irritate someone, who has no effect (OR CONTROL)upon grand policy.

Its disgraceful for these people that scream about rights and caring for others are the same ones that violate others when they don't agree with them. It's "do as I say but not as I do." I'd rather fight the enemy there on their soil than fight them here. There people in this world who, no matter how nice you are to them or how much you help them, still want to see us destroyed. Our men and women in uniform are protecting us. Remember too that the armed forces is VOLUNTARY. If you don't like that, move to one of our hard line muslim countries and see how your treated by them.

To whom it may concern, I am a 'Marine Corp Brat' as I grew up on Marine bases across this country (i.e. 29 Palms, Camp LeJeune, etc.). Being such, I have a bit of a unique perspective on the U.S. Military. Even though we do not see the reason why things are done or, as in this case, wars are fought, we as citizens need to support our military as it is them in whom we call upon in time of need to defend us and our way of life. We have absolutely no right to degrade our armed forces just because we feel that our political leaders decide to send them into harm's way. We have an obligation to stand behind our troops no matter how we feel about our current government. It is not the military that you should be against! If you feel so adamantly against this or any war, you need to take your gripes and complaints up to the next highest form of government. What you are doing is attacking the tail of the problem (or perceived problem) and not it's head. What you are doing is wrong in so many ways it is unfathomable and is by far more wrong than anything that you may think President Bush and/or the United States Marine Corp has done, and it is quite dishonorable to boot. You are attacking a part of our country and by proxy our country itself. You are waging your own jihad against the USMC because you think that your way of thinking on the war in Iraq is right. So in essence, you are being terrorists here. By allowing this hate group to post themselves outside the Marine Corp Recruiting Center, you are allying yourselves with their cause, which is at present, to wage war on America. They wage war by attacking the military when instead they need to be petitioning you to send a clear message up YOUR chain of command to the leader of this country and not attack those who are trying to defend it, our way of life, and our freedom! It is one thing to support freedom of speech, it is quite another to declare war on our military, the shield that defends us all, in order to send a message to our President and our government. Kinda ass-backwards, don't you think? You all need to stop and re-think your whole outlook on our government if you think one moment that your present course of action is going to cause any response from our government other than a complete disdain for what is going on in Berkley. This will be, in the long run just a small blip on the radar screen of the President, but you all will brand yourselves as brainless twits who attacked the wrong people. If I were the people of Berkley, California, I would most definitely not vote you back into office next term. Further, If I were them I'd run you all out of town for making the city of Berkley look so incredibly stupid for electing you to office in the first place. If I were you all, I'd be ashamed of yourselves for allowing this to go as long and as far as it did. Delton Wilson

As a woman who has her brother and her godson serving our armed forces, I find that the actions of these women disgusting and demoralizing. Coming from a military family, my father was a POW and died in Vietnam. We know the pain of loss and understand that there is a price to pay for Freedom. Our family has always held our Armed Forces with respect and honor as all Americans should.
