Boycott Beijing Olympics 2008

Stand by the People of Burma - No Olympics Torch!

Target:
The Honorable Gavin Newsom, Mayor, San Francisco, CA, U.S.A.
The Olympic Torch Relay is scheduled to arrive in San Francisco on April 9, 2008. San Francisco is the only North American stop on the worldwide 2008 Olympic Torch Relay before the summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Mr. Mayor, you have been quoted in the press stating that "we are honored" to host the Olympic torch. Have you considered that the Chinese government has a policy of supporting the murderous military regime that has ruled Burma for the past 46 years? Have you considered that they are blocking resolutions at the United Nations calling for an international arms embargo against Burma? Have you considered that they are one of the largest trading partners with Burma, in arms, oil, natural gas, gems, and include huge investment in infrastructure and roads, and that all this money helps prop up the military regime there? Have you considered the fact that the Chinese government is using the Olympics to promote itself on the global stage, without consideration for China's direct responsibilities for human rights throughout the world?

We believe the Chinese government can and must take concrete steps to help end state repression in Burma now. They can join the international community in imposing economic sanctions and an international arms embargo against Burma.

San Francisco has a long history of standing up for individual rights and of speaking out against tyranny. As recently as October of last year, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution in support of the people of Burma in their struggle for democracy. Mr. Mayor, you signed this resolution on October 29, 2007.

We ask you now to honor the resolution you signed. We urge you, as Mayor of San Francisco, to withdraw San Francisco's official welcome of the Olympic Torch Relay.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

I will personally tolerate international communions of boasting superior atheletes, as it brings us together in a friendly if not competitive manner. Only boycotting the beggining is compromising sendind a distinct message of disproval and trying to appease the masses against entering the olymipcs with imperial powers(such ARE MANY GOVERNMENTS other then the recently popular china)

China supports the Burmese government which is guilty of genocide, torture and despicable human rights violations. The world cannot be silent. Stand up for the victims of this brutality and evil. China makes it possible for the Burmese government to continue these acts. The world must take action.

A man happens upon a little girl tossing beached starfish into the ocean before they die in the morning sun. The man considers the thousands of starfish washed upon the shore and asks, “What’s the point? There are so many, you couldn’t possibly make a difference.” The girl picks up another starfish and pitches it into the surf. “I made a difference to that one,” she says.
