As tenants of ST/PCV, we are appalled that Tishman Speyer has cancelled their plans to build a dog run in Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village.
Both on the ST and PCV websites, potential tenants are promised a "dedicated outdoor area for dogs". However, the tenants have recently been told that Tishman Speyer has decided to not go through with their plans to build the dog run that they promised the tenants.
There are now many dogs living in ST/PCV and the dogs need somewhere safe to run and play. It is absurd that the dogs are not allowed to run on the grass, but Tishman Speyer has not provided an alternate space. There are 80 acres, and there were promises and rumors that a dog run would be placed near building 400, but still nothing has been built.
We are respectfully requesting that Tishman Speyer build the dog run in either Stuyvesant Town or Peter Cooper Village, as promised. If this is truly "luxury living" then the management should provide this space which really is a necessity (not a luxury) for dog owners.

Eat balls you yuppie invaders who over pay in Stuy Town! Tishman Speyers are incompetent, just look at the lux living blog. Now you yuppie transplants want a dog run? You clowns, along with the NYU dorm kids, have already ruined this once proud neighborhood. You suck, leave and take your dogs and Tishman Speyers with you. SUCKERS for paying market rent in Stuy.

It is wonderful that Stuyvesant Town has so many recreational areas for residents - including children. But Stuyvesant Town is NOT a real family-friendly place to live until and unless it also provides for dog-owning families who are so many!!

after the horrible interactions between security and dog owning residents, tishman speyer needs to rethink this dog run idea for the safety and happiness of all concerned.

I vote for a dog run as long as it's not by my apartment! This should help people follow some basic rules (no dogs on grass....period/must be on a leash with owner holding at ALL times). A dog run would help people follow these rules...let them go wild inside the dog run! I love dogs and cats, just got to respect the rules!

I appreciate the fact that Tishman Speyer has been so accommodating for their residents, putting in various added amenities for students and kids. But where are the accommodations for the dogs? If we have to register the dogs and pay to have them living in Stuytown can't we have a spot for them to run free? Residents don't have to pay for their kids to live in Stuytown and yet they have access to several different playgrounds. I understand the complications that might ensue if a playground was turned into a dog run but if they are unwilling to have one officially made into a dog run then can't we at least allow the dogs to play in one of the various fields at designated times?

I think that a dog run is very important that stuy town gets a dog run because dogs need exercise and it would be really great if we didnt have to walk really far for a decent dog park/run!!!

There is not a decent dog run in the community. It would be a great advantage to those tenants who have dogs a place to go so we are not being constantly told to "keep off the grass."

It's not right for TS to lure dog owners in as renters, take a registration fee and then turn around and treat dog owners like criminals when we walk our dogs. Dogs are either welcome or they're not. And if they are welcome, TS should build the dog run that they promised. They are not going to keep renters by treating us this way. With such low occupancy, they should be doing everything they can to keep renters happy and extending their leases.

I urge you to reconsider the decision not to build a dog run for PCV/ST. For a complex as large as this, and that aspires to attract market rate tenants, not having a fenced, safe dog run is non-sensical, especially after having made the decision to finally permit dogs here! Doing so will help keep the grounds cleaner, quieter and safer for all!

We live in Peter Cooper Village and we have a new puppy. Our dog needs a safe place to run and play with other dogs. We would be most grateful and appreciative if Tishman-Speyer would provide it's residents with this space especially because we are not permitted to let our dogs on the grass. A dog run is as essential as a playground is for children. We pay alot of money to live here and I don't feel that this is a luxury...it is a necessity. Thank you.

it is unfair for residents who have dogs that were led to believe that Tishman Speyer was going to build a dpg park and come back to say that their going to just cancel the project. This is while they have created an Oval Film center that NO ONE uses.

It is difficult @ the crack of dawn to have to go down to Tompkins Square Park dog run, or other run, before work in the morning. When it is still dark, safety is an issue as well. To have a run in Stuyvesant Town will allow dog-owners to save time & effort. We also deserve to have an appropriate space for dogs to enjoy life on the premises, if we're to be permitted to have dogs. I would happily help to maintain such a run on a voluntary basis, as I'm sure others would.

The promise of a dog run needs to be kept. Dogs that receive proper exercise are 100 times less destructive! That means apartments with clean floors, hallways with clean carpets and elevators that do not smell.
Just think what might happen if all of the dog owners began to not clean up after their dog in retaliation to a broken promise. The feces would pile up quickly. A question for the legal professionals; Since PCVST is private property, do dog owners legally have to clean up after their dog?

this is a wonderful cause and would not only help the dogs & owners, but help bring the community together. It is highly unfair to not have a space provided for them, especially when there is more than enough space on the property to do so.

There are several reasons why we need this:
1. As a dog owner it would be really nice to let the dogs run so that we do not have to worry about them accidently stepping on the grass (which dogs tend to do), feeling comfortable in your own community that you pay ALOT to live in and i think actually following through with the whole dog-friendly statements that PCV has made would really attract new tenants. This may even help me decide whether or not to move to waterside or the other neighoring communities who are willing to match what I currently pay at PCV.
2. If you give us a place to go we will stop making all the other neighbors mad who don't want to have to see happy puppies frolicking and playing. It isn't really the whole dogs pooping on the lawn thing, some people just hate even seeing them around or are scared they will come after them.
3. Overall with the issues of safety, it would be nice to know that we have a place for the dogs to go without someone coming after you. I think dog owners are an INTEGRAL part of the community, I have alerted security of suspicious things more than five times!! We see what really goes on, remember we have to take them out + walk around the neighborhood every few hours!! Give us a safe place for our dogs to go so that we don't have to run into the weird homeless men please, that's why we pay so much to live here!!!!
4. We are such a strong community and could be even stronger if we made a group of volunteers who can help clean it up and take care of the dog run. We would all love to do that because our love of animals is so strong! We want PCVST to be a even better, closer community. It is also such a great way to meet your neighbors, make us want to stay here =)

I'm tired of people yelling at me whenever I let my puppy run around and poop on the Oval. But where else is he supposed to go? He's too little for the curb! Until we get the dog run we deserve my little Bluto is going wherever he wants!

When we rented the apartment we asked if there was going to be a dog run on the grounds. We were told there would be, plus the website at the time indicated that there would be one.
It's a shame one has not yet been planned when there are quite a few "play areas" that are never used, already fenced in and simply need to be rededicated to create a dog run.
# 28:

A dog run would benefit those with and without dogs in that there would finally be a place where rules regarding dogs within the complex would be clear. Non dog owning tenants would no longer feel the need to attack dog owners, and we dog owners would not need to feel defensive everytime there is an uncertain complaint.

We moved in because we where told that this is a dog friendly apartment and the high rents where worth to be able to have our small dog run around the premises. I am a responsible dog owener who always picks up after my pet and I see that all other residents do the same. Please give us our promised dog run or at least allow one area for the dogs to play in. You could even propose certain hours in the evening when most of us get home from work. This is how it work in Southern California state parks beaches; dogs are allowed from 6 - 7 am and then again after 5pm until dark.
I never would have agreed to move into Peter Cooper Village knowing how strict you would be with the dogs. I call this false advertisement at the leasing office!

When I signed the lease on my MARKET RENT apartment two months ago I was told about the dog run construction that was 'underway'. So far it's false advertising and especially as the weather turns colder I'm simply not going to be up to going blocks and blocks to find some space for him to run around.
I'm not interested in most of the so called 'Oval Amenities'. I'd rather that money be spent on a dog run.

As others have noted, I was also told when inquiring about the apartments that a dog run was planned for the property. Limiting dogs to the sidewalks, loops, and roadways does not give them "dedicated" space. It's absurd for a complex this large to cater to so many special interest groups but exclude the tenants that paid an extra $250 to have a pet. What was my $250 for?

I am a new resident and was told when I called the leasing office that there were plans to put in a dog run in the North-west corner of the property. Not only did that information sway me to sign a lease here, it played a role in the selection of my building. Please put in a dog run - It will keep tenants that own dogs happy tenants, and will keep those that don't like the dogs happy as well by keeping the dogs off of the lawn.

Allowing us to have dogs was a big and generous step for Spayer. But what is the point if we don't have a space to allow our dogs to run and let out their energy? Would YOU rather have sleeping dogs, tierd out from the dog run at 12:00am, or a barking dog who is longing to go outside at 12:00am?
Think about it.... you and your entire buildings beauty sleep depends upon it.
