I am outraged by the wolf massacre underway in Alaska through the practice of aerial gunning. Numerous scientific studies show that wolves are beneficial to the overall health of natural ecosystems. Wolves are also important to Alaska's billion-dollar tourism industry.

I would like to point out, that this is NOT sport hunting, this is NOT being done to give the animals a "fair chase" or anything like that. It is a MANAGEMENT TOOL that has nothing to do with sport hunting in terms of providing fair chase. Have any of you ever read the NRC's report on wolf control? It is very eye opening, I suggest you all read it before you come to the conclusion that you know everything about this subject, as most of what you all are saying on here is false. There is a large body of evidence to support that it is effective management technique, while other humane methods are not. Wolves reproduce very fast, and are not in danger of being wiped out in AK at all. In fact, there was a couple of young wolves who came right into town here where I live in Fairbanks Alaska and was eating dogs alive. As for being barbaric and cruel, this is the natural state of things, stop pretending that eveything in nature is cuddly little bunnies. What about the moose who are eaten alive? Have any of you ever seen a wolf kill? Did you know that wolves have a preference for the pregnant uteruses of cows? Something to ponder while you all are on your medications with lab rats who had to die to prove the LD50 of it and your veggies that the plains bison had to die for to provide the room to grow it, not to mention if you eat factory-farmed beef.

THis is barbaric and horrific. Someone needs to educate Mrs. Palin on the difference between hunting and cruelty.

It is truely sad that as a legislative body you cannot figure out a more humane way for population control of this carnivore. I understand that there are many reasons to control this population especially under the notion (or excuse) that ungulate populations are having troubles hunting for food. However, your desire to continue this act and to offer a bounty for each killed wolf sounds more as though this psycho-social act is about killing for pride rather than maintaining subsitence. I too realize that you are not a believer in science, but, when creating rudementary standards of population control why don't you also look at methods that other states, countries or even continents used for subsistence strategies and ecological management. Google, ask.com or some other metasearch may offer some good ideas.

Governor Palin, you are an unethical hypocrite! What good is being "pro-life" if you want to destroy wildlife, the enviroment and the planet for future generations. The populations of wolves, caribou and moose have balanced each other out for thousands of years without any morons trying to control their numbers. You disgust me and I cannot wait until you are out of office. You should not be governing people if you are such an incompetent retard when it comes to wildlife!

Well why not help these animals in need, they can't help themselves, not with how people keep treating them. So we should help them get there lives back to where it should be.

This is such an evil and heartbreaking practice.
Pam Fioretti from Australia - I really love your comment.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
