Tell Congressmen to trash the wasteful wild horse roundups

Say goodbye to the wild horses, they won't be any left in 2012 unless the BLM stops roundups and starts excepting Madeline's offer. A GREAT alternative is Birth control through PZP (Porcine Zona Pellucida) remote darting contraception of wild mares as opposed to harmful and dangerous roundups which over 12% of wild horses die each year due to these roundups. Plus another 8% if not more get sent to slaughter because the BLM marks them as Un-adoptable, for some reason tax payers have no say in what happens to the mustangs taxpayers pay to support and that came off OUR public lands, so the BLM can make all the decisions.
How else to help wild horses!-

On January 24th, Congressman Dan Burton addressed the House Representatives about the Bureau of Land Management's wasteful spending on their wild horse program. Rep.Burton stated "This is another bureaucratic nightmare that we in this Congress should not-and i don't believe will- put up with. And I'm going to ask the Appropriations Commitee to cut the budget of the Bureau of Land Management because they're wasting taxpayers money by millions and millions, and maybe hundreds of millions of dollars."

I urge you, as a member of the House Appropriations Interior Subcommittee, to comply with Rep. Burton's request and cut the budget of the Bureau of Land Management.

Around 40,000 horses are being held in government holding facilities at a cost of about $37 million a year. In addition, the government is losing at least $123 million a year (and by some estimates, as much as $500 million a year) to welfare livestock. In other words, letting private cattle herds graze on taxpayer-supported public lands for next to nothing.

In this economy, there is no excuse for wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars. There are alternatives that are more humane and responsible. Without providing a sufficient explanation, the BLM rejected a proposal from Madeleine Pickens and the Saving America's Mustangs foundation that would have saved approximately $2,000 per horse per year. The BLM has also delayed on implementing a contraceptive program developed with the Humane Society of the United States.

Mustangs are part of the American heritage and should be protected under the Wild Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, not rounded up in inhumane gathers and shipped a thousand miles across the country to be warehoused in government holding facilities at the taxpayers' expense.

As a taxpayer, I am appalled by the BLM's wild horse program. I urge you not to stand by and allow this agency to continue wasting money. Please cut the BLM's budget to save taxpayer money and the mustangs.

Thank you.
