We the undersigned would like to thank the China Wildlife Conservation Association and the Sichuan Forestry Department for closing selected bear farms and releasing hundreds of bears into the care Animals Asia. Your continued effort to promote herbal and synthetic alternatives to bear bile are highly appreciated. We urgently appeal to the Chinese government to end bear farming by the end of 2010 at the latest. Please find attached a petition signed by (number of signatures will be added here) animal friends from all over the world.

This is barbaric & stupid!!!Bear bile used by some traditional Chinese medicine practitioners is largely derived from bile farms, in which live bears held in horrific conditions are “milked” for their bile. Modern doctors in traditional Chinese medicine no longer depend on bear bile for the treatment of illnesses related to the liver. There are other forms of medication that are just as, or even more, effective than bear bile powder. A prominent Vietnamese pathologist has expressed concern not only for bears farmed for their bile, but also for the health of humans who consume the bile. Please stop the pain and the torture of Moon bears for their bile and use modern methodes of medication. Make your nation a true modern and compassionated nation. Moon bears are beautifull creatures that need to live in the wild. In countries across Asia, thousands of bears live a life of torture on bear farms, so that their bile can be extracted and used in traditional medicine to cure ailments ranging from headaches to haemorrhoids. Bears are confined in cages which vary from agonisingly tiny "crush" cages to larger pens, all of which cause terrible physical and mental suffering. Something should be done about it. When alternatives are available, but there is a decision to carry on with tradition only for the sake of tradition and such traditions involve cruelty towards beautiful living creatures, surely darkness will be your inheritence. We are also, in this day and age, living in a global village which means that those who respect life in all living creatures all over the world will not support your economy, neither buying your products nor visiting your country. Please consider carefully if it is worth it to be cruel to defenseless animals who have advocates all over the world.
