During the 3rd week of July, Rod Blagojevich is slashing 50% of the state's budget used to maintain state historic sites. The sites range from the well-known Lincoln stops in Springfield to the David Davis Mansion in Bloomington, Bryant Cottage in Bement, the Shawneetown Bank in Old Shawneetown, and our own Black Hawk State Historic Site in Rock Island.
These cuts will be debated by the state general assembly beginning on Wednesday, July 16th.
Please sign this petition and let Illinois law makers know that the money used to maintain our state's historic and cultural touchstones is well worth our time, effort, and expense.

We the undersigned express our support of state spending for Illinois State Historic Sites and their staff. We find the proposed budget cuts by Rod Blagojevich to the funding of State Historic Sites to be a deep blow to our collective cultural history and understanding. We wish to express to the Governor, as well as the Illinois General Assembly, that we value both a balanced budget as well as support for our Historic and Cultural sites.
The educational opportunities provided by our State Historic Sites is invaluable. The support staff, which would be impacted severely by these cuts, is an essential part of the cultural interpretation that these sites provide to the public.
We the undersigned do not support the $2.8 billion in budget cuts proposed by Rod Blagojevich, and we ask you join us in defiance.
We signed the "Stop Blagojevich from cutting funding to state historic sites" petition!

I love and appreciate the beauty of nature and the historic sites. This is a big asset for Illinois, to cut the budget for it will be pitiful.

Please don't cut our state's funding for our parks! They are an important part of our history and I hope my children and their children will be able to visit them. This is a terrible insult to the first inhabitants of our state.

Black Hawk Park is our best historic site in the area, it holds so many memories. I belong to the Black Hawk Hiking Club, my mother was married in the park nearly 20 years ago. I've also helped at Girl Scout camp held at the park for about 8 years. There is too much community connection to this park to let it go. Black Hawk park is worth funding- we love this park.

I cannot believe that a place as historic as this is going to get their funding cut 50%. You are doing a terrible disservice to our communities by allowing this to happen.

This is a slap in the face to the FIRST Americans.Closing Blackhawk State Park equals an attempt to erase our state's Native American history, which is unacceptable. Just another chance for the White Man to destroy a part of their heritage.

Blackhawk State Historic Site means a lot to me and the Quad City community. My family and I have taken hikes, attended events, enjoyed programs, toured the museum, and conducted many scouting events. Blackhawk preserves a very important part of our history. That story needs to continue to be told. I encourage the governor to maintain funding for Blackhawk State Historic Site. Without it, our community will suffer a great loss.

We recently had more than 200 area Cub Scouts at Black Hawk for our annual day camp. What a wonderful experience they had exploring the woods, geology, fishing and enjoying being with each other. The park is the site of many of our scouting events and I can't imagine not having it as a resource. PLEASE SAVE THE PARK.

This is a disgusting abuse of power. This disgraceful man must be stopped. Where is all this money he intends to save going to? His own pocket? This an outrage to all in this community as well as to Native Americans everywhere. Has our government not done enough to hurt and distroy this group of people? Now they seek to distroy one of the few places that commemorates one of there great tribes that once proudly walked where we now call our home. We owe it to these great people, as well as oursleves and our children to save this park!
