Stop Brazil from Allowing More Amazon Rainforest Destruction

The Brazilian Senate has just passed a bill that allows more destruction of the Amazon Rainforest. According to the BBC, this new legislation would allow more deforestation because it would reduce the amount of rainforest that farmers are required to preserve.

While there is research that indicates that deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest is declining, this new bill would undo all the progress that has been made in recent years. Farmers would no longer have to protect as much land and agricultural deforestation would be allowed closer to areas that are not environmentally stable.

Tell Brazil that the Amazon Rainforest needs more protection, not less. Tell the President that she should not allow this bill to pass into law as it will cause more deforestation and damage to an invaluable resource.

We the undersigned, demand that the new bill passed by the Senate not be passed by the Chamber of Deputies or by the President. This amendment to the Forest Code will create more deforestation and less accountability as farmers are not required to protect or preserve as much rainforest. It will also allow agricultural farms to be closer to environmentally sensitive areas.

Please do not let this happen as the Amazon Rainforest is a vital resource and should be protected.

Thank you.
