Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,

Why do you care more for condemned prisoners than for the children of California?  We find your proposed, across the board budget cuts for California to be outrageously irresponsible.

You propose slashing 10% from our public schools, while at the same time you propose increasing funding by $136 million for a new death row facility at San Quentin State Prison. Year after year, we are being forced to fight to ensure our children receive the quality education they need and deserve.  We already run a tight ship, relying heavily on the volunteer hours of parents and the fundraising efforts of our PTA.  It is simply outrageous to think that you would add insult to injury by agreeing to build a new death row facility at one of the most expensive places in California, all the while ignoring the needs of our children%u2019s education.  Your proposed 2008-2009 $4.8 billion budget cut will severely damage the quality of education in our state. The proposal would decimate the voter-approved minimum-funding guarantee for schools (Prop 98). That is incredibly short-sighted and simply unacceptable.

Your proposed budget cuts will close 48 state parks, reduce benefits for poor children and state subsidies for the elderly, blind and disabled.  These people will be hardest hit by your careless proposal.

We strongly oppose your 2008-09 budget proposal and plans to eviscerate funding for students, schools and the needy. I urge you to evaluate the state budget and reduce or eliminate low-priority programs and minimize the impact on high priority programs like K-12 public education. Our kids are our future and their education must be protected.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

It is time you listen to the people that rallyed behind you to get you into office because it is these same people that are now wondering what in the world we were thinking! You need to get in touch with what the average person is dealing with, I really believe you have no clue! I work FT, have just graduated from Community College and plan on attending Nursing school in the fall, I am a mother of 2 and have been married 10 years. Both of our children attend public schools and we are very active within the organizations there; it is so sad just how much fund raising and begging we have to do so our children can have one field trip a year or enjoy one art day a year. Please do not cut education any further...not all of us can afford to send our kids to private schools and we bust our butts to help the public schools give the extras that should be part of the children's weekly schedules any how! Thank you, Stephanie Tassart

As I have a daughter in 3rd grade right now, it is hard enough on the teachers to teach and choldren to learn with 20 students per class WITH MORE THAN HALF OF THESE STUDENTS NO EVEN SPEAKING ENGLISH. I can not imagine having more. I WILL PULL MY CHILD AND WILL ENCOURAGE ALL OTHER PARENTS TO PULL THEIR CHILDREN FROM THE CALIFORNIA SCHOOL SYSTEM AND PUT THEM INTO PRIVATELY FUNDED SCHOOLS WITH A CLASS RATIO OF 15 OR LESS. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE TO THE "FUTURE OF THIS STATE". WORK ON WHAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED LIKE ILLEGAL IMMARGRATION AND DEPORTATION, MAYBE THIS WILL HELP THE BUDGET WHEN WE HELP OURSELVES AND NOT MEXICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought the residents of California permitted the Lottery to take place because it was supposed to contribute to education. We haven't seen much of those monies in education. Rather than cut the education budget, why not reduce the salaries of all those people that administer the California Lottery? I'm sure there are other programs that are fattening up wallets. Let's start there....

Our children can not speak up for themselves, we are their voice and their advocates, which is why, I am asking you to please reconsider cutting our education budget. It is simply not fair for our children to pay the price on something they did not do! By doing this, in the long run, you will have uneducated individuals growing up in a society that will be comprised of unproductive, uneducated, dependant citizens who will put a deep strain on public assistance.

I saw Arnold last year at the Walt Disney Concert Hall for a choral concert. He was stressing to us the importance of the music program and how important it is to students. HAH! He even compared it to bodybuilding. Damn hypocrite.

Some things are worth paying for, and if we have to raise taxes to do it, then so be it. Spending more money on education now may mean we'll have fewer people in prison in the future. Sounds like a good investment to me.

You are damaging our children's future. Not all of us can afford private school like you can. Rethink your position and find another way to balance the budget. I know... how about a pay cut?

The death penalty is a cruel and inhumane punishment. It is extremely over funded while most inmates never receive their death sentence. Our children need to learn and blossom in school. They deserve more funding.

It is obvious to me that the govenor does NOT have his children in public school. Nor has he spent years as a public school parent trying to constantly think of and execute creative fundraising projects so our kids can have art and music and classroom aides and money for interesting assemblies and fieldtrips...We are supposedly the richest state...shouldn't we be #1 in education? Imagine how much more money would go into our economy if people in CA did not have to pay Private school tuition!!!

Surely people must realize that when there is a budget cut in education, the first thing to so is the ARTS programs. Many a school district will be cutting valuable arts programs (which adhere to development of many, many different aspects not limited to singing or drawing) in order to adjust to the budget cut. Schools are already turning away students because they don't have enough money to support the large number of students seeking enrollment in private school because there is not enough room in classes. Budget cuts only serve to make this worse. Why jeopardize the education of the country's future? California is already ranked 49th in the country, and here we are, reducing money for education. With this statistic in mind, funding for schools should be increased, not cut! Thanks to this, my school's auditorium is probably never going to get fixed and our temporary bungalows are going to become permanent, even if they're not meant to be permanent. Thanks a lot.

I demand that you reinstate the budget for K-12 education to at the very least the minimum budget. We would all rather pay taxes than take cuts to education. We oppose your entire budget. Please re-do it.

Even though the budget cuts are effecting prisons, we should be more focoused on the schools music programs. Vanden High school in Fairfield Ca has already seen the effects of these horrible cuts. Even though our football team only won 4 games this last season, the football program is still intact when the music program who frequently goes to competitions, and recieved 1st place or higher in all competitions.Who recieved the Overall Grand Sweepstakes award at the national Heritage festival 2 years in a row, and has been invited to go to New York next year and whos Choir is one of the best in the county, is getting cut thousands of dollars and may lose our beloved band and choir directors, because of the govenor dosent know any better.

Arnold shold become more concerned about education instead of building prisons because when these kids grow up, they will be the future of california. He needs to realize that schools across California need education.

Taking away from education is the equivalent of chipping away the root of a strong community. I am disappointed that education and public parks are the constant targets facing budget cuts. The devastating aftermaths of the budget cuts in an already suffering community lacking in public programs will only create division, ignorance, criminals- and in the end a weaker society and economy.
