Stop Clam Digging as a School activity in Japan!

  • by: Dingyun Xu

Clam Digging is an extremely popular activity in the Spring Season of Japan, which is to harvest clams in order to kill them by cooking. In these years, it even became a  school activity in some schools.   However, as Clam digging can sometimes be linked to killing, I would like to make people sign this petition,  in order to ban the clam digging as a school activity in Japan. This is definitely an important issue, because as clam digging even became a compulsory school activity, it is possible that some children would not realize the importance of living things.

As uncountable number of clams may die by children's hand, We must not let more innocent children involved in harming clams!
We the undersigned urge the prime minister of Japan to ban clam digging as a compulsory School Activity. As clam digging is for killing the harvested clams by cooking, we do not want this type of cruel activity to be part of the educational system.

As every child has a kind heart to animals from the beginning, we do not want their child innocence to spattered away, we do not want children to think killing animals is right, we do not want children to be forced to killing animals.

We are aware of the fact that children perform clam digging even outside of school activity, therefore as long as clam digging do not become illegal, children would continue killing clams. We understand that it is hard to make clam digging illegal as it is to kill clams, therefore as school is a sacred place for education, we want the school to take a lead. We want the school to no more include clam digging as a activity, and moreover,  teach children not to harm living things.

As children is our hope of future, we want all of them to have a innocent and kind heart. We again, urge you to ban the clam digging as part of school activity, as for save the innocent lives of clams and innocent heart of children.

Thank you for taking time to read this letter, we hope you would take action as soon as possible.
