Facebook Campaign to Stop Dump Site 41

Facebook Campaign to Stop Dump Site 41

Target:
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Environment Minister John Gerretsen
We the undersigned demand that the Ontario Government reverse its decision granting permission to drain water from the aquifer at Site 41 in Simcoe County to allow for a landfill to be built on the site for the following reasons:

1. Scientists have referred to the pristine artesian aquifer in the area as one of the cleanest sources of freshwater in the world, comparable to ancient arctic ice. The water is so clean it can be used as a benchmark for gauging the purity of other water around the world.

2. There is widespread resistance to the proposed dump site within the communities around the aquifer. The citizens and First Nations of Simcoe County are demanding that the County explore other options to manage waste by implementing waste reduction strategies, upgrading the 50 existing landfills, and recycling recyclable products lying in older landfills.

3. Several sources, including Environment Canada, agree that Canada is on the brink of a freshwater crisis. It is important that we make the protection of freshwater sources -- not the placement of new landfills -- our first priority.

4. All life drinks from the springs that will be drained: beaver, bear, wolves, deer, fox, coyotes, turkeys, eagles, ducks and many others. The draining of the aquifer at Site 41 will affect the Wye River and Wye Marsh -- an important bird sanctuary in Ontario. Your government must assess the impacts on the entire ecosystem of draining this crucial water supply.

5. Building a dump site on a pristine aquifer fundamentally contradicts your government's stated goal of moving Ontario "toward a zero-waste future."

6. The native peoples have not been consulted about the development of a garbage dump known as Site 41 in the territories of Georgian Bay and the Ojibwe, Chippewa, Metis, Wendat (Huron) and Mohawk Nations.

We are counting on you to make the right decision. Put a stop to Dump Site 41!

We need to do everything we can to maintain our water. There are so many new solutions to dumping by creating energy with the material. The impact would be disastrous.

I strongly urge you to reconsider. This is not a decision to take lightly. Allowing Dump Site 41 to take place will bring forth devastating repercussions. We are talking severe and lasting consequences here. Please correct the situation immediately. Protect what is vital! Thank you, Alicia Flick

enough is enough ! What is wrong with spending the designated money on a waste burning plant? There is one in Brampton where many of our friends live NO-ONE has ever smelt it or complained, todays technology can burn cleanly and use the heat to generate electricity .

I cannot believe the decision has been put forward to consciously destroy a pure freshwater source in Canada. This is truly unbelievable and we the public will voice our concerns. Please do not create a dump of toxic pollutants on a documented large pristine water source.

I am a mother and multidisciplinary artist. As a mother I feel protecting our waters is crucial. We carry our children in water before bringing them into this world, mothers need to stay well hydrated when breastfeeding. I mean it only makes sense to not even have to explain why it is important to not fill our cleanest source of freshwater in the world with garbage. We shouldn't be fighting for this, it should already be understood how damaging this could be to human existence. Please don't through garbage in the little bit of freshwater we have left we don't have alot of places such as this left.

I think the charges should be dropped on these individuals. Why should they be charged for trying to preserve their lifeline - the surrounding water. Why should they be subject to charges for that? As mentioned in other media, why can't the other landfills be upgraded! It is becoming obvious that Native people are having less and less of a voice, or the governments whether it is is municipal, provincial or federal are just ignoring us and looking at us as insignificant. Time to stand our ground once and for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We as Canadian's need to think that paying for drinking water which is filtered is not an option when the freshest source is available. Lets keep the beautiful things that Canada is known for; like our natural resources and our marsh land which all need this fresh clean clear water. Also, we as humans can not live without water or the plants we eat. So are you thirsty or hungry yet? Don;t forget to add the chemicals to your new diet. Not me I want fresh unaltered water and food. How about you?
