Stop fracking in Nova Scotia

  • recipient: Stop fracking in Nova Scotia
There is argument that gas extraction from shale is unnecessary as there is a surplus of gas already in North America with excess being sold to Asia, specifically China. Gas is pumped from Canada to the US and few people receive direct use of the end product whilst,  ironically, there is a huge amount of oil used in NS for home heating. The gas is liquefied before being shipped to Asia and therefore arguments that this is of climatic benefit sound hollow. The new fracking process of extraction uses toxic chemicals, enormous amounts of water, needs masses of trucking activity, produces tons of contaminated water and appears to be poorly monitored and controlled. Please sign the petition and add your voice to the growing numbers worldwide standing up to the petroleum industry and their scant regard for the People and their environment.
