Upon reading this article I was really shocked and disgusted. Exactly who would want to do this to any guinea pig, let alone 124 of them. These animals are very popular pets, especially in the UK were I come from. We must stop these furry little creatures from becoming victims of cruelty. Full stop!

Guinea pigs are mammals, just like human beings. Therefore, they feel pain and hunger and thirst just like we do. The size of the animal does not mean that it is permissible to treat it negligently, or to harm it in any way. People who do such reprehensible things should be ashamed of themselves. And the law needs to be changed to increase the penalties for such disgusting behaviour.

I am totally appalled and shocked and heartbroken that a human being could commit such horrendous and savage cruelty to guinea pigs, a most delightful, loving, personable and worthwhile pet. Please, please ensure that the creeps who commited this horrific crime are punished to the fullest extent of the law - in fact, increase the law to allow for strong punishment! This is a very heartbreaking story, especially since the breeder's solution was so very cruel and unnecessary. I don't know what to say, except that all breeders should have to abide by humane standards and should be checked upon periodically to be sure they are operating in a way that is careful and kind to the helpless creatures in their care.

Despite so much information and advice available to potential/existing guinea pig owners, there are STILL too many people out there who are too lazy to bother about properly caring for and keeping these precious, charming animals. Having worked for an animal shelter on the Small Animals section, I have seen the evidence first hand and would plead that anyone considering keeping guinea pigs, does some detailed research on the requirements and committment necessary for their guinea pig to live a happy, healthy and, hopefully, long life.

How can there be such cruelty in what is supposedly a country of animal lovers? There are many animal welfare organisations in the UK that could have helped rehome these piggies from the might of the RSPCA to little guinea pig sanctuaries such as my own. I hope that someone will be prosecuted for this outrage.

124 guinea pigs is far too many for one person to own and the way they were 'cared' for was terrible. I think it is important that the sale of guinea pigs in shops stop. There are already hundreds awaiting homes in animal shelters throughout the UK. Lets put the focus on them, and let the pet shops just sell the feed and other accessories these animals need.
