stop H.B. 568 to ban pit bulls in the state of ohio

Target:
rep Yates
Sponsored by:

This bill is to ban aka kill all pit bulls or any dog that looks like one in the state of ohio.  The H.B. 568 is asking all residents of the state to turn over their dogs to be killed within 90 days.  Not only is this just outright wrong.  To ask pepole to turn over members of their family to be murdured.  we as a state do not have the resources to enforce this law.  Pit bull owners for ohio have done everything that they have been asked and with a smile on their face.  Because they love their dogs... wearing a muzzle in public to carring extra insurance.  please help save the dogs we love.

I cannot believe that this is being considered. My dog is part of my family and has been for 6 years. I cannot believe that the politicians are considering killing my pet! This is crazy! Why not make tougher laws for the owners that don't take care of their dogs which leads to bites; WHY kill the innocent family members that we love when we are responsible and law abiding pet owners? I am so disgusted I am going to ask for a meeting with the representatives.

OMG! Being born and raised in Ohio, I was proud of my state, but over the past 15 years living elsewhere, it has become an embarassment. If these ignorant people would read the history of the bull terriers and what they were raised for, they might see they are the best family dog to have. I continuallt challenge the media to come meet our AmStaff to see what a great family dog is about. People who think this bill is reasonable need to be charged with whatever you can charge someone for making a species/breed extinct and attempted murder. My children are loved and protected my AmStaff. YOU PEOPLE OUT THERE NEED TO GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS THAT IT IS THE OWNERS FAULT, NOT THE BREED. The little white poodle in the house behind us tries to attack our dogs through the fence. YOU CAN MAKE ANY ANIMAL AGGRESSIVE IF YOU CHOOSE TO. But, we don't do that to family memebers!

If certain 'types' of HUMANS were know for causing harm to others, would we ask parents to hand over thier young IN CASE they might too?? Not all people are alike and not all dogs are alike-type of breed should not equal type of life!!

This change proposed by representative Yates is philosophically evil, and morally repugnant. It is misguided "caring and protection" run amuck. Deal with the dog not the breed.

If Micheal Vicks pitbulls could be trained to be normal why wouldn't a normal person be able to keep a pitbull like a normal pet. dogs name is chico i take him to the dog parck every weekend and hes the most lovely and playful dog. I have a young daughter that plays with chico everyday never had a problem.

Punishing an entire breed is never the answer. It's just racial profiling for animals.

All pet owners should be held responsible for their pets. Banning this breed is not the answer. American Staffordshire Terrier's are some of the more intelligent breed of dogs. They can be amazingly affectionate and it is in the animals environment that any domesticated animal learns to behave. I appose HB 568. This is not the answer.

Banning an entire breed of dogs due to incompetent/ignorant owners is totally absurd.

As an individual against breed specific bans, i would urge you to oppose HB 568. The real answer is enforcement of our existing laws and not the creation of new ones. Thank you for your support.

I think it is absurbed to banned pit bulls, not all pit bulls are bad, just like not all people are bad. May you should take it out more on the owners for making their dogs mean.

Breed specific legislation is merely a quick, cheap, careless, insufficient "fix." The problem itself is irresponsible owners. Leash laws are not obeyed, there is bad judgement on the part of the owner in different scenarios, proper care and obedience training is not sought for the care of their animals, or the safety of the animal itself is not appreciated. This is about protecting the animals from bad owners, not prohibiting responsible owners from owning a pet (four-legged family member) of their choice. Dog behavior, good or bad, is not limited to certain breeds.

Have you done ANY research on this breed? This is one of the most intelligent and trainable breeds. It's the owners who are the problem, NOT the dog. What's next, banning Rottwielers, Dobermans, Chow Chows? I was seriously bitten in the face by a dog. A Shar Pei. The cute, wrinkly dogs. I don't expect on ban on that breed. It wasn't raised properly. If you want to pass legislation, then why don't you focus on stricter rules for owning and/or adopting an American Staffordshire Terrier. I SERIOUSLY oppose this bill. I will NEVER vote or SUPPORT you for anything in the future.

I am writing in regard to HB 568. I am a Police Officer in a local suburb and OPPOSE the breed specific ban. In my 12 year career I have never been attacked by a pit bull however I have been chased by several other breeds of dogs. The problem is with the owner not the dog. The responsible suburb owner's are being penalized for the stupidity of the gang bangers. These are the most loyal and loving animals. Please get this one right and do not ban a specific breed of dog..

I say that it is not fair. I too would like to know how it is that someone can get away with killing one of our family and not be put away for it. I am totally against this voluntary go ahead and kill me paper.

The problem with pitbulls is not their nature. It is merely stupidity on both the owners and the general population out there. I agree that pitbulls are not for everyone but what is? At the same time when cared for by the right owners, (like anything else, kids, boats, cats, cars) They can be a great campanion. I work at a veterinarian clinic and I have to say, out of my time there, it is my own opinion that its the little dogs that are more aggressive and more likely to bite. IE Yorkies, Toy Foxes, Dauchsuns, Cochre Spaniels, etc etc. I have personally handled about 20 pitbulls in my 6 months at this clinic and not one has even snarled. I'm sorry but I dissaggree with all the people out that are afraid of them. All I can say is STOP watching television! I want to get together with someone out there and create a new "when dogs attack" video. I'm sick and tired of seeing ONLY pit Bulls on there. I have seen Golden retrievers and even Labs go after people. If people would just quit wanting to pet every damn animal they see out in the world, we would have a heck of a lot less "attacks". Think about it, Lets say someone had you on a leash and was walking you down the street, someone stops and says "oh, how cute" and then reaches down and strokes your head. Sure sounds harmless, but let random people do this to you over and over and over, for weeks, and months, and years, sooner or later you arent going to like it. Let's say you had a bad day at work, and your boss fired you. Would you like me to get in your face when you are just minding your own business and pat you on the head, and tell you what such a good dog/person you are? If you said yes to that your a moron and shouldn't be in public let alone around dogs. I'm sorry if I rambled but i'm sick and tired of this "name" that pit bulls have aquired throughout the years. It's absolute BS. FACT: ALL DOGS BITE! NOT ALL DOGS LIKE YOU! SO IF THEY ARE NOT YOURS LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!!!

We have a pitt bull terrier and she is the most wonderful dog, because of their high pain tolerance my son who is 2 can basically do anything to her and she just licks him where my other dogs may bite. i have more fear of my 12 pound pekingese as he has bit my son numerous times for no reason, than i do my pitt bull terrier. If i dont have the right to kill someone in your family, why does anyone think they can kill a member of mine? There are some owners out there that need to be held responsible for their dogs actions, regardless of the breed. Dogs werent meant to stay pinned up in a cage all day or chained up in a back yard. They need to release their energy or they become frustrated and thats when dogs get aggressive, they have nothing else to focus on. How would any of us feel if we NEVER stretched our legs? only had 2 feet of chain to move on? think about it. This breed needs training and a certain handle. these dogs in the Gladiator days were used for fighting OTHER DOGS not people, so i'm still confused on where the 'fear of a pitt' comes in when it comes to people. They are just the only dog that makes head lines is all. They are a wonderful, loyal strong breed that is being treated unjustly. Us owners are doing everything asked of us to keep our beloved pet so leave us alone! until my dog bites or attackes one of you, then tell these lawmakers to stay out of my house!

My pit bull is a member of my family- just like any pet, no matter what kind or breed of animal. If you tried to take any member of my human family and kill them, I wouldnt rest until I saw you go to jail. It would feel the same if it was a canine family member.
