Stop the Approval of a Modern Industrial Building in an Older Charming Residential Neighborhood

Using improper procedures and going against the Municipal Code and the Architectural Board of Review Guidelines, the Architectural Board of Review (ABR) approved a modern industrial style 2-unit residence in the charming Upper Westside. The plans include side seamed metal siding and roof.
Originally modern plans were not being approved by the ABR. Also due to the large size of the project in relation to the lot, the project doesn't comply with the zoning ordinance. Originally planning staff was not in support of giving a modification to the zoning ordinance to allow the project.  Then the applicant changed architects by hiring an architect who sits on the ABR.  After that, modern industrial plans have been approved and planning staff supported giving 2 modifications from the zoning ordinance: 1) to build into the front setback and 2) to have less than the required open yard space. There is evidence of bias and mishandling of the project by the architect (who is an ABR member), the planning staff, and the ABR. The CA Fair Political Practices Commission(a state agency) has determined there is enough initial evidence to pursue a full investigation into the conflict of interest by the ABR member who is also the project architect.
Tell City Council that Santa Barbara residents demand unbiased treatment, proper procedures, and for design review decisions to be made in a transparent and ethical manner.
Ask them to overturn the design approvals that were given with a bias and improper process and uphold the appeal which will be brought to them on August 23.
We the undersigned ask City Council to uphold the appeal of the ABR's approval for 903 W. Mission St. We support the appellant.
This case shows bias and mishandling by the applicant, city staff and the Architectural Board of Review. We believe our city employees and boards should be transparent and unbiased.
And, this modern industrial architectural style with metal seamed siding is not compatible with the older charming residential neighborhood.
Thank you for considering the appellant's points.
