The Japanese whaling fleet, the ship is the Nishan Maru, and is aiming a harpoon, with a high explosive tip, at a whale.

STOP JAPANESE WHALING!

Target:
comments@whitehouse.gov.
This petition is ment to get both the Austrailian and United States goverments to stop the Japanese Cetacean Research Co's illegal whaling activities. The Cetacean Research co. is exploiting a loop hole in the global agreement to stop all whaling. The loop hole is that a country is allowed to use lethal tactics to learn about the whales.

We live in a age were we can produce every product that can be gotten from the cruel, bloody slaughter of whales, yet this goes on!? They are targeting the Humpback whale, the most common whale seen on whale watching trips, and that was just recently removed from the endangered species list ; the Finn whale, a species that is still endangered, and there are rumors that they may be trying to catch a Blue whale, the rarest, and largest species of whale. Whats worse is that the meat is sold in markets, violating the Endangered Species act that states that it is illegal to partake in any exchange involving a living endangered species, products made from them, or parts of one.

For the Australians, if you haven't already heard, they are targeting Migaloo,  the "Big white fella" that swims off Australia's coast.

And anyone who signs, could you please spread the word of this petition? The more signers we get, the faster we can have a effect. Thanks.

I have been a longtime supporter of Greenpeace (1980's) and their beliefs and now have joined the ranks of those that support the Steve Irwin, "Sea Shepherd"crew and their actions. It is unnecessary for any country to keep killing so many whales for "research" and then have the meat show up on Japanese dinner tables. Who do they think they are fooling. We all know that whaling is a lucrative and prosperous market that makes millions of dollars for those that sponsor and equip these massive killing machine ships. I believe that it has been a long time since any country has actively sought to ban or prevent this slaughter and I urge all countries to step up to the plate and do what is right for all of the whales and the survival of the oceans ecosystem.

This loophole that they are taking advantage of needs to be closed. I find this market personally despicable and reprehensible. Even if there is a heritage as a seafaring people to hunt these animals, in this day and age there is no excuse for this behavior, especially when their population is burgeoning into the multi-millions. Their lack of respect for the environmental impact this will have, as well as the nature they will be depriving future generations of people, is ridiculous...

What is wrong w/ these Japanese whalers?! Don't they understand that this is almost an extinct species of animal?! They are killing the few we have left..and they are doing it ILLEGALLY in International Safe Waters!!!! Why won't the Navy or GreenPeace do more to help the Sea Shepherd in his efforts to stop this insanity????!!!!

There is absolutely no logical reason for the Japanese to hunt whales today. The Japanese are blatantly lying with their explanation of "scientific" reasons. Humpback whales were just removed from the endangered species list and now the Japanese want to start killing them again...that's just heinous behavior and needs to be stopped! We need to respect and protect the largest and most gentle creatures God gave us.
