Stop New York Times Biased Israel Coverage

Target:
New York Times
A recent op-ed piece by Nicholas Kristof on June 19th, http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/19/opinion/19kristof.html, implied that Israel does not provide emergency medical care for residents of the Gaza Strip. The Save a Child's Heart Foundation, www.saveachildsheartus.org, based in Israel has been providing lifesaving heart surgery for children from Gaza on an ongoing basis for more than 10 years. Even while rockets were being fired from Gaza into Israel this year and last year, children were allowed to cross the border for cardiac surgery provided by the volunteer doctors from Save a Child's Heart. Please sign the petition asking the New York Times for objective coverage of news from Israel.

In "Strengthening Extremists" on June 19th Nicholas Kristof implied that Israel does not allow Palestinians to leave Gaza for medical emergencies. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Save a Child's Heart Foundation (SACH)  based in Tel Aviv has been saving Gazan children suffering from heart problems on a regular basis since 1996. In 2007 SACH treated 250 Gazan children. There are Gazan children being treated at SACH facilities in Israel right now. The level of rocket fire from Gaza into Israel has sometimes caused delays for Palestinians seeking medical care in Israel. However, Save a Child's Heart has continued to bring children into Israel for treatment, although, at times, at reduced capacity. There is a six month waiting list of Palestinian children who need heart surgery. The reason is not political; it's financial. Save a Child's Heart simply needs more money in order to save more children. In the future, please check the facts instead of making them up. And, please print a retraction of Mr. Kristof's misinformation. Thank you for your consideration of this request.

I saw with my own eyes - when I worked for SACH as a volunteer - that the doctors are very dedicated to their work. They don't (want to) make a difference in treating the children of Israelis and Palestinians! They love the children and love to help them and their families. You can see the hope and happiness in the eyes of this parents. By the way, there are also some doctors from Palestinian authority working in the hospital for this project and everytime corssing the border...

I've visited the Save a Child's Heart Organization personally and have seen the wonderful work that they've done. It's a shame that all the good they do goes unnoticed.

I was part of this marking project Save a Child's Heart as a volunteer for three months. Save a Child's Heart unites people in a way we will not find anywhere else. The time I have spend in Israel to support SACH in caring for the little patients and reporting for several German Newspapers has changed my personal attitudes and also my position to human life. I an journalsit as well and it is for sure that SACH needs objective and qualified echo in all kinds of media. Also because it is based on donations from all over the world. It fills me with joy to know that people from the thre different major religions are able to work hand in hand to provide live saving cardiac surgeries for children from all over in these days of war and terror. Help them. Give them a voice. REPORT ABOUT SAVE A CHILD'S Heart! Thank You.

New York Times: Do you ever get your facts straight? Get on the Honest Reporting website to get your information. Israel DOES provide lifesaving heart surgery to children from Gaza. LEARN ABOUT IT! You do the country a disservice by not reporting HONEST information!!!

As a past volunteer with Save A Child's Heart I saw the positive impact that SACH had on the health of children from all over the World. I was most taken with how Palestinian children were treated: they were prioritized and provided with care first. Children from the Gaza Strip were brought to the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon and were given new life not in spite of the political situation but BECAUSE they were sick children.

to whom it may concern: I have found the Time's recent coverage of israel quite disturbing. As a student who has met nicholas Kristoff and been inspired by his work to speak to high school students about Darfur, I was quite disturbed to read his june 19th op-ed which suggested that Israel does not provide emergency medical care for residents of the Gaza Strip. Please stop the bias and provide "all the news thats fit to print," not just the news you agree with.

I cannot believe that a newspaper of such wide reknown as the New York Times would print such unabstantiated news without checking more carefully. It is widely known that Israel does not look at nationality when it comes to the care of the wounded or sick in the Middle East.

Israel does more in Medical Treatment for Arab Children in Gaza and everywhere else than any other country. The immediate Arabic neighbours do not even provide this extended care.

Do your writers not understand that telling the truth is their job...Perhaps they need a refresher course. By the way, have you checked the border between Gaza and Egypt? Do Arabs ever think it might be their place to care for their own? I guess not..

It's amazing how a newspaper like the New York Times can print an outlandish article like this without checking out its facts. I know first hand that there are hospitals and organizations in Israel that give give free, high-quality medical care to the children of Palestinian, as well as other 3rd World nations'(some of which are "sworn enemies" of Israel and wish its annihialation). Perhaps the inclusion of this fact would have blown your intentions, which are obviously to justify the mindset created by the leaders of the Palestinians -- that it's okay to kill Israelis just because they are Israelis and instill the general lack of respect for life. That's what's also perpetuating the status quo. Too bad Hamas confiscates whatever gas and resources does come in for humanitarian uses, and uses it for its own needs, leaving the remainder for the rest of the people. You don't mention that, do you?
