Stop Nomura's $1.6 billion ocean raid

We the undersigned ask you to reconsider your proposal for Amundi Japan Ltd. and Nomura Holdings Inc. to introduce a fishery fund that will be invested in companies that engage in commercial fishing, make fishery-related goods, and own seafood restaurants, betting that there will be a boost in the global demand for fish.

Mankind has consumed 90 percent of the large fish in the sea and some of these species are now threatened with extinction. This indicates that unless a way is found to adopt truly sustainable fishing practices, fish, from sharks to tuna and cod, will suffer declines that will be terminal. A stark reminder is the state of many shark populations that now stand at five percent of their natural numbers.

Our oceans are at a turning point, and whilst there is a profit to be made from this unmitigated catastrophe, does Nomura Holdings Inc. want to be associated with the biggest extinction event since the dinosaurs?

Sincerely,

Dear Mr Kenichi Watanabe, CEO Nomura Holdings Inc.
