STOP NY's GOOSE-GASSING PLAN!

STOP NY's GOOSE-GASSING PLAN!

Target:
USDA, NYC Mayor Bloomberg
Sponsored by:

NEW YORK - New York City plans to trap and kill as many as 2,000 Canada geese this summer in an attempt to avoid the type of collision that caused an airliner to ditch in the Hudson River.

The hunt will take place on dozens of city properties within eight kilometres of Kennedy and LaGuardia airports.

Aviation officials have culled bird flocks on airport property for years, but this will mark a major expansion of the effort into other parts of the city.

The roundup is being timed with the molting season, when the geese can't fly.

The killing is scheduled to begin within a week.

The birds will be gassed!

----------------------
Many states, including New York, have passed laws against the gassing of shelter animals for the cruelty it inflicts on them. Why then, is gassing "ok" for our wild geese?

PLEASE rescuers, contact these people and let them know we can help re-locate some of these birds. We have offered to take a few hundred into our own wildlife sanctuary here;

My friends and I here in Canada are horrified at the barbaric means by which you plan to manage (not resolve!)this issue. We understand various wildlife agencies have offered to take some of the beautiful birds - we hope you will consider these other options. We here in Canada are plaqued by the stigma of the horrific seal hunt here no matter where we travel to, people everywhere seem to have heard of it and are disgusted by Canada's allowing it- surely the great state of city of New York does not want to leave this dirty stain on their shining city! Sincerely concerned neighbor to the north, Yasemin Ozbey

I see them fly over my city 1/2 a dozen times daily...especially this time of the year. I think it is incumbent upon the state to come up with a solution that will resolve the situation safely and without unnecessary bloodshed. We put man on the moon over 40 years ago, and yet we can't find a way to keep geese out of plane's engines? Surely, we can do better in the 21st century. There are many wildlife experts that can and should be consulted for this situation.

Before I looked into it, I honestly thought this was a travesty of some sort. This is not hunting for sport. This is outright genocide. 2000 Geese are going to be shot and most likely not a single one even used to feed the homeless. PLEASE, reconsider your actions before it's too late.

What magnificent flying objects; no, not a Boeing, Canada Geese! As usual, humans have again decide that the only way to solve a problem is to kill a creature which has no idea of it's 'intrusion'.
