Stop Romanians From Wearing Bear Fur for New Years

People in the streets of a central Romanian town performed the traditional New Year's bear dance on Wednesday. Adults and children wearing skinned bear furs and folkloristic costumes paraded in the streets of Comanesti, about 186 miles north of the Romanian capital Bucharest. They were dancing, playing musical instruments and singing as part of an old traditional ritual performed at the end of each year. In pre-Christian rural traditions, dancers wearing coloured costumes or animal furs toured from house to house in villages singing and dancing to ward off evil, but if you ask me i'd say that what there doing is just as evil. According to the legend, if a bear enters somebody's house it brings welfare, health and luck. The tradition is passed from generation to generation but there are fears that this ancestral rituals may eventually disappear. A large number of young Romanians have left the area looking for a better life within the European Union, which Romania joined in 2007, especially in Italy and Spain. Prices of bear furs have gone up recently after the introduction of new EU regulations restricting bear hunting. A bear fur can cost up to $2,800. New colours have been added to the old folklore costumes, such as the EU flag proudly carried by horsemen alongside the Romanian flag please sign this petition to put this act to a end so theese thousands of bears dont have to suffer each year for this new years celebration.
